Do fungi or bacteria cause fermentation? - in concern to producing alcohol as a product...

I know that yeast (uni-cellular FUNGI) can cause fermentation under the right condition of temperature, pH, with a suitable carbohydrate source.

However...i also read (confusingly) that bacteria cause fermentation -> So do fungi or bacteria cause fermentation, or both???

Re: Fungi or bacteria cause fermentation?

Yeast catalyse a reaction to cause fermentation (that is convert a sugar into an alcohol). Genetically modified Bacteria can be designed (and have been) to function in the same way.

Re: Fungi or bacteria cause fermentation?

Both can carry out fermentation using different substrates.
