*John Calvert, a lawyer who runs the Intelligent Design Network, based in Kansas, praised the board as "taking a very courageous step" that would "make science education interesting to students rather than boring."*

Now this I don't understand. HOW does adding more to the ciriculum make science more interesting? All it does is make science less offensive to conservative parents.

My biology teacher, who is also head of science, thinks that because of evolution science should be an elective from yr9 up, like religion is. I agree. I think that rather that trying to shove the sylabus full of non-science, they should just let anti-scientist not take it, same as anti-religionists don't take it. (On a side note, about 1/4 of my bio class are creationists, and I know others who would have taken bio if the lines fell out better (and who do take physics and chem) and they still want to learn about evolution.)

theres a whole unit of study pretty much devoted to this at sydney uni. all about what defines a science, and why certain things shouldnt be regarded as scientific.. we talked about intelligent design.. the lecturer gave us an example that intelligent design advocates use. went something like if u came across a clock in the desert, you would assume it has a maker because it is so complex yada yada. therefore, our universe, also being complex, must also have had a maker. its a bit dodgy, and is certainly not a valid argument. oh well. who can say whether its true or not, but its certainly not a science.

Re: Say No To Intelligent Design

Ergh. I find this so annoying.

They go around bugging us on the streets, coming to our homes to preach their inconsistent beliefs and now they want to invade our nice little logical learnings?!

It's Bulls#!t.

I don't know if the Board is seriously considering it or not, but there's got to be a change in the board if they are.

I don't mind having to learn that there are other beliefs out there, and lots of people who follow them...and take that into account in things like transgenics...but if you can't prove it or at least find a shred of PHYSICAL evidence towards it, it should NEVER be taught in a science class room.
