Hardboiled novels: All of Raymond Chandler's books

Forensic novels: All of Jeffrey Deaver's books (there are two after The Bone Collector, plus another one which is more unrelated)

Patricia Cornwall's books (the Kay Scarpetta series and some others- but don't use the one on Jack The Ripper because it's not fiction)

Children's novels: the Trixie Beldon Series (sorry about spelling, also don't remember the author)

TV: Without a Trace (usually involves crime, but be careful!)
Crossing Jordan (based in forensic areas, but involves solving the crime)

Some other texts that are good to use...seeing as Snow Falling On Cedars has been removed from the list of texts to be studied...it is an excellent text to help demonstrate the closed mystery.

"Moonstone" is a good classic mystery
using mousetrap as a supplementary text can also help with the understanding of what happens in the Real Inspector Hound.

Film:
Murder By Numbers
Taking Lives
Along Came A Spider
The Secret Window (stretches the genre somewhat)

Nikki French has some good novels, psychological crime fiction. I loved "Beneath the Skin".

Realist
Stiff - Shane Maloney
The Brush Off - Shane Maloney

Stiff's probably the better one to use since the Brush Off seems to stray a little bit out of the genre a bit....but they are both good texts to use.

The No.1 Ladies Detective Agency by Alexander McCall Smith and Metro Girl by Janet Evanovich are both lighthearted, crime fiction relevent with a female detective.

Midsomer murders are screening at the moment on channel 9.

You could do "Murder, She wrote" The show itself wasn't great, but it goes into feminism, especially since Jessica (Angela Landsbury) was almost 60 when she started the series. Also, its a nice contrast to todays shows. Today, many if not all, crime fiction shows use forensics, whereas Murder, she wrote does not.
