    Why is researching so hard

I have been researching for hours and I've barely had anything to gain from it. I end up reading pages and pages of information and I don't seem to be getting any closer to finishing this essay I have to complete. I really need help, and any tips on how to research properly for history would be GREATLY appreciated.

If you're looking for something specific use Ctrl+F, helps a lot by navigating keywords only and saves you time from reading a whole lot of useless information.

Researching is what it is, especially when you start out and know nothing, or very little of the field... That's the point though, if it were easy your teacher would be handing out As like they were cotton candy. It's supposed to be a challenge to test your research skills. You can simplify the thing with reading resources by a simple tip my International Relations lecturer at university once told me. "If the shoe doesn't fit, get rid of it." If you haven't found what you're looking for from reading the introduction, summary, abstract, whatever, get rid of it and find something that does have the information that you do need. That way you won't feel like the proverbial hamster on a wheel going nowhere.

Re: Why is researching so hard

I have written countless history essays in my time. To give you a rough idea, it takes 1 hour to produce 100 words.
So if you have a 1,500 word essay, you should give yourself 15 hours working time. Keep going! Take notes because something you read early on that you think is not relevant maybe of use to you later on.
