LAW at UTS or MACQ???????? HELP

Unless you generally hate studying law, I don't see how the extra units could not be enjoyable. I'm graduating and there are still so many units I wish I could study.

both my sisters do law at UTS and they love it!

and i dont know what u heard bout the social life, but as far as they are concerned its extremely social!

my preferences are UTS law, UTS business/law, MAQ law, MAQ commerce / law

go UTS first i say!

how is the physical atmosphere of the campus for law students? are all law classes held in that big ugly building next to ultimo tafe?

Anyway Macquarie has a strong intercontextual and interdisciplinary rep. You get a heavy dose of jurisprudence first up.

You will be reading Foucault and theories and journal articles in both criminal law units.

A third of property law readings will be on the theory of property and a third of the readings in equity is based on power relationships, the economic justifications and history.

4 weeks will be used in commercial law (Sales of Goods Act and related legislation) will be examining the nature, evolution and rationale of lex mercatoria.

Entire labour/employment law elective does not require problem solving but involvess examining cases as well the political and economic tectonic plates beneath the law.

Off the top of my head, quite abit of intercontextual, and if your the artsy and philosophical type, law electives can sometimes easily accomodate your interdisciplinary background

Also, we get open book exams and take home exams....not sure about UTS....

Jurisprudence... EW i hated it so much. But anyway, law at MQ is great. I love the take home exams.

UTS and MQ = pretty much on par. Even tho UTS gives you PLT, most law firms or companies will pay for your PLT anyway so I don't think thats a major issue.

Depends if you want to travel into the city. And also the second part of your combined degree... if it's Arts/Commerce/Accounting/Acturial/Finance I'd say MQ. Better rep than UTS.

As for the social side, both unis have a Law society with their social events. And even though UTS doesn't have a campus like UNSW/USYD/MQ, this doesn't stop them from socialising... lol. At MQ nothing is going to stop you from doing that either. In the end it's up to you and how involved you want to get.

Doing Comm/Law @ MQ. Don't really have any complaints. I ended up going with Macquarie as it is closer to me and I hate public transport.

As someone previously suggested, UTS has PLT built into it's course, whereas Macquarie does not. That's probably one advantage that UTS has over MQ.

As far as I'm concerned they are both great universities with fairly comprehensive and up to date Law degrees. Reputation wise? Nothing in it.

You just need to weigh up the advantages and disadvantages and make a decision.

go to UTS, UTS hands out DN and HD's like no other uni. same with UOW. thats how they get thier substandard students jobs and make them all look good in employment surveys

I really wanted to go to sydney but apparently unsw is better for law, so i finally decided on a degree i want to do.. arts law

major in psychology and then criminal law, hopefully that works out. BUT the uai is like so freaken high so im going to apply for macquarie and uts as well.
Question though, if i get into uts or mac could i still transfer into unsw or syd?

Being forced to read Discipline and Punish would turn me off any course.

Yes you can apply to transfer regardless of the uni you go to but your ability to do so depends on your UAI and how well you do in the first year.
