Law 'extra curriculars'

Its pushed pretty hard that when we're applying for clerkships we need to have good grades and impressive extra curriculars.

I'm wondering what sort of things people are doing? I'm really not sure what sorts of things prospective employers care about?

I just don't know how we're supposed to find the time to be brilliant, active in the community and have a family/social life as well....

you can't. unless you're one of 'em rhodes/fulbright scholar overachiever types.

do something for your law society (or just be really good friends with the law soc president).
try to get an article published in a law journal (it's not as hard as you think).
volunteer to a charity (once a year will do).
do mooting.

that'll do you. in interviews i think it's more about how you talk up what you've done then what you've actually done.
