4 Aug 2009, 10:45 PM ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | The official Medical Science thread You can hide this advertisement by registering. Consolidation of MedSc related stuff in one thread yo!Which universities offer Med Sc degrees? Charles Sturt University Bachelor of Medical Science Bachelor of Medical Science (Pathology)/Bachelor of Forensic Biotechnology Bachelor of Medical Science/Bachelor of Forensic Biotechnology University of Western Sydney Bachelor of Medical Science (Hawkesbury and Campbelltown) Macquarie University Bachelor of Medical Science University of Wollongong Bachelor of Medical Science University of Newcastle Bachelor of Medical Science University of Sydney Bachelor of Engineering and Bachelor of Medical Science Bachelor of Medical Science and Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery Bachelor of Medical Science University of Technology Bachelor of Medical Science Bachelor of Medical Science, Bachelor of Laws Bachelor of Medical Science, Bachelor of Business Bachelor of Engineering, Bachelor of Medical Science Bachelor of Medical Science, Bachelor of Arts in International Studies University of New South Wales Bachelor of Medical Science Australian National University Bachelor of Medical Science University of Canberra Bachelor of Medical Science What jobs can I get with a MedSc degree? When you finish your degree you should aim to become a member of AIMS (Australian Institute of Medical Scientists) http://www.aims.org.au Some degrees come with automatic membership. With or without your membership, MedScientists can work in; - research - pathology labs - cardiac technicians (performing ecgs, stress tests, etc) - health promotion - hospital scientists - Teaching Medical and Science students (Tutorial-based) Can I use Med Sc as a precurser into Medicine? This question gets asked to death on this forum. It is possible, but I stress that unless you maintain a certain GPA (I'm thinking it's atleast a credit average, if not a DI) the chances of transferring into Medicine are slim. Alternatively you can; Try entry through UMAT Try and get into Graduate Medicine after you finish your degree What do I learn in Med Science? This is specific to CSU, if anybody else doing MedSc at the other unis want to contribute... Without going into subject codes, etc, I will do/have done subjects in the following Anatomy and Physiology Statistics Microbiology Law Biochemistry Histotechniques Bacteriology Virology Human cytogenetics Chemistry Cancer cytopathology Specific to Forensic Biotechnology; DNA and Forensic Technology Crime scene Any more questoins... 4 Aug 2009, 10:45 PM ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: The official Medical Science thread Well, my course structure is like this; Anatomy and Physiology Law Haematology Immunology Various biochem subjects Cancer Cytopathology Bacteriology Mine is a bit different because I'm doing the Forensic Biotech double degree, so mine also has crime scene, genetic engineering, DNA, etc... If you're looking to work in pathology labs as a scientist and not just in research,k ideally you want to be accredited with AIMS. |

Why waste your time doing something like an Arts degree to get into Med, when you can do a MedSc degree, do just as well in it and go into a Grad Med degree with some assumed knowledge? Sounds smarter to me. |
