i know an amphiprotice substance is something that reacts with acid and base. but i put that for amphiprotic, are they the same ?
also, is this equation correct cos that is what i wrote

H2Po4- +H3O+ -> H3Po4 +h20

H2Po4 + Oh- -> HPO4-2 + h2o

Is it ok if I didn't use H3O+ but used H+ instead?
I think I messed up the definition:
An amphiprotic substance can react with both an acid and a base - that's not right is it

yeah should be fine...amphiprotic - acts as a proton donor and acceptor...u should be right. bronstead-lowry definition

I used H2PO4 - + H2O -----> H3PO4 + OH-
and H2PO4 - + H2O -----> HPO4 2- + H3O+

Same thing right?

i put they both reacted with water and did it that way. But for when it donated a proton, i made at a diprotic acid, so H2PO4- + 2H20--> PO4- + 2H3O is that wrong?

you have to explicitly state that it is different in each case, otherwise u MAY NOT get the marks :( cos in each case what happens is different...if u did u should be fine :)

What do you mean by that? The equations? It just asked us to "write" them.

That was for sub's post btw

im pretty sure it sed to write the equations for the HPO4 thingy being amphiprotic...
it was for bobbie's post...and i think i misread the second part of the msg. if she (no offense if ur not a chick) just sed i wrote they both reacted with water...u have to say that its different... ie one way, u get the proton donation, the other u get proton acceptance by the HPO4 ion.

my bad. sry. :(

you have to use H3O and OH not just 2 H2Os because amphiprotic nature occurs under diff conditions... at least thats what our teacher told us
