qualitative - turbidity secchi disk, smell of eater etc... no numerical data of any sort...just plain comparisons

quantitative - DO, BOD, dissolved solids (total), etc...other stuff with numbers to compare by.

not too hard really, but the paper sucked big time :vcross:

Qualitative means determing if something is present ie brown-ring test for nitrates (tells you they are presnt but not how much)
Quantitative means how much of something is present ie gravimetric analysis, titrations...
(Quantitative = quantity = how much - thats how i remember it)

yeah agree totally that the paper DID suck bad...
i didn't like da questions.. but any ways.... thx for answering..
that what i wrote.. but i didn't give that much examples... i had turbidity for Quali and phosphate and nitrate ions for Quati which is measured in ppm.. i just said that.. and explain it a bit..
hopefully willl get 4 marks...

It said something like "Qualititative and quantitative tests can be used for testing water sample. Distinguish between qualitative and quantitive" or something... so I just defined each and gave a water-related example of a test for each

No. It was just a what is the difference, but i guess examples could've made the answer better.

hey boys and girls..

This qn was only worth 2 marks. It asked to define both qualitative and quantitative. It wuldnt have been " a must " to include examples.

i wrote qualitative analysis is sth related to the quality of water, such as turbidty, dissolved solids, etc. Quantitative analysis is sth related to the quantity of certain chemical in the water such as the level of suspneded particles in water, dissolved oxygen concentration, BOD, etc...was that right?
