1 What is the purpose of ecumenical dialogue?
(A) Conversion
(B) Unification
(C) Social justice
(D) Mutual understanding

From the Studies of Religion 1 2011 Paper. Answer is D.

I understand that the purpose of ecumenism is to promote mutual understanding, but isn't it also to unify Christian denominations (thus making B correct as well)?

No the unification used there is not meant to be taken metaphorically. It refers to a formal process of unification.

I see where your coming from, but in the context of SOR unification means when multiple churches become one (like how Methodist, Presbyterian and Congregational became the Uniting Church)
