I'm fairly competent at writing essays, but lately I've been feeling as though my essays are beginning to 'plateau'
I use PEAL paragraphs, connecting words, topic sentences, linking sentences, etc. but I want to develop more 'technical' skills.
Some of the ones I've picked up so far include:
- quotations around text e.g. instead of writing Dexter, I would write: TV series 'Dexter' (2006)
- occasionally using groups of three in my analysis e.g. the character Dexter is endearing, charismatic and sociable.
- substituting words such as 'portray' and 'imply' with 'delineate' and 'insinuate'
- embed key words of the statement/thesis throughout essay
I'm sure there's more out there that I am not aware of!!! If anyone has any other technical tips, please share!
