1. Look at the outline on the Module
Elective 1: Representing People and Politics
In this elective, students explore and evaluate various representations of people and politics in their prescribed text and other related texts of their own choosing. They consider the ways in which texts represent individual, shared or competing political perspectives, ideas, events or situations. Students analyse representations of people’s political motivations and actions, as well as the impact political acts may have on individual lives or society more broadly. In their responding and composing, students develop their understanding of how the relationship between various textual forms, media of production and language choices influences and shapes meaning.
Students choose one of the following texts as the basis of their further exploration of the representations of people and politics.

2. Ensure that you read/watch/listen to your prescribed text before commencing reading your related
( Even if its just a summary!!)

3. Choose your related text.
Please choose at least 2 related text for this module(plus Discovery), as it is possible for them to ask for more then one!

4. What on earth is the module trying to get us to do??
Highlighters are your friends! It is highly advisable to print out all module outlines and annotate them (i.e what the module is about/looking for!)

-explore and evaluate various representations of people and politics in their prescribed text and other related texts of their own choosing

Related texts is signalling you need more then one!
Is the relationship positive? Distorted, how do they differ or what are the similarities?
Make a judgement!

-consider the ways in which texts represent individual, shared or competing political perspectives, ideas, events or situations
Explore the differences, possible biased representations which may distort our judgement.

-analyse representations of people’s political motivations and actions, as well as the impact political acts may have on individual lives or society more broadly
Why are the people in the texts behaving how they do?
Impact on the reader? Is it acting as a warning to society about the dangers of certain political mindsets? If looking at non-fiction consider the depth of what is happening/what has occurred and the impact that it has on society.

-In their responding and composing, students develop their understanding of how the relationship between various textual forms, media of production and language choices influences and shapes meaning.

This means that this module is looking for you to choose a related text which is different form, it is talking about different textual forms influences and shapes meaning (i.e the message of the book)

5. Read the related text, note down any ideas/good sounding quotations
Originality is king!

6.Make notes based on this scaffold

Most importantly, this module calls for related texts to be of a different form.
For example; I’ll be examining Luke Harding – The Snowden Files and Arthur Miller’s The Crucible
This is because one is a non-fiction text, and the other is a play (different textual forms)
