Re: Chinese Second Language

Scoring high in chinese is not that hard if you work hard. Last year we had a class of about 13. and we had a reasonably hard working class and most of the boys got 30's. Only a few of the shall we say 'less intelligent' boys got 20's.

Re: Chinese Second Language

hi...

we've just recently finished our unit 3 and for that unit i got 44.5/50. i saw that most ppl in our class were about the same. the highest (i think) was 45/50. but then again, there was only bout 6 ppl in our class that is doing VCE chinese in my class that is registered at my chinese school.

i was just wondering if anyone can tell me if i will be able to get 35+ with that score, and if i achieve similar score for my unit 4 and do pretty good on my exam at the end of the year?

just kinda stressing bout it... *sigh* coz i asked my teacher how good the score was and she said "不好" straight away without even looking at me... i guess im just hoping that she's trying to motivate me to do better... *laughs weakly* *sigh*

Re: Chinese Second Language

You will def get 35+ scaled
And you have a strong chance at getting 35+ raw

What score you get for your SACS aren't as important as where you are ranked.

According to the scores you stated you probably are ranked up high (possible top 2). If indeed you are ranked top 2 in SACS by the end of the year, and at least 2 people get A or above on the exams (one being you) you will end up with a very good score

Thanks for your tips mate. Oh and I am only doing 1+2 this year so I don't have to worry about my detailed study at the moment.

I still haven't heard Kevin Rudd speak Chinese !

Re: Chinese Second Language

My girlfriend did Chinese SL in Year 10 and managed to pull off a raw 45. The higher you get, the more it comes down to luck - or so it seems. At the upper echelons the difference between a raw 45 and raw 50 is a matter of a couple of marks, so don't be disappointed if you "only" get 40+.

OH, I finally heard Kevin Rudd speak. On the news when he was at the APEC summit. I lol'ed.

Shmeestar, I take it you're doing Chinese 3 & 4 this year. Does your signature contain any mistakes?

What? There are 600 mandatory characters? This completely collapsed what little confidence I had left in my Chinese skills. Where can you find the the mandatory characters? Bah, looks like someone else asked the question and it wasn't answered. Time to do a little bit of fishing myself, then.

...Oh...there's only a few weeks until my Oral! Well, well, this will galvanise me at least. Hoping for a 30+ at worst.

Re: Chinese Second Language

There's a list of characters in the study design, just went to look for it and it's there. (off this page - http://vcaa.vic.edu.au/vce/studies/l...n2ndindex.html)

Our teacher gave that list to us near the start of the year, she always refers to it as 400 characters though.

What I'm worried about is they'll be combined together in combinations I've never heard before. Happens quite a bit in the listening we've done so far..

Chinese I reckon is going to be my 7th subject though xD
