11 Mar 2009, 6:13 PM ![]() | Indonesian in a year? You can hide this advertisement by registering. Just wondering how long do you have to study Indonesian before going to VCE? Is it like Accounting or Biology? I know you can do Accounting and Biology 3 n 4 without doing unit one and two. Any advice? |

3 Apr 2009, 4:42 PM ![]() | Re: Indonesian in a year? advice: dont. a language is hard enough to learn in many many years, let alone one. and it would be very hard to learn the grammar, words, everything required for 3/4 indonesian, as you go into the course with a fair amount of assumed knowledge and skill. for instance i'd been doing it for 11 years before this year...though not seriously until last year, but still, i find it challenging every day |

15 Sep 2009, 6:38 PM ![]() | Re: Indonesian in a year? If you're good with languages, go for it. I've been doing Indonesian for about 3 years and its easy enough. All you have to get is different prefexes for verbs and nouns and you're set. Good luck! |

26 Mar 2009, 12:23 AM ![]() | Re: Indonesian in a year? Hmmm...I started Indonesian in year 9 so I had four years. Although seriously, unless you're a native speaker or close to it(i.e speak malay) then DON'T! It isn't as easy as people make it out to be. You have to learn vocab and sentences and you're competing against people who have been doing it for years. Just saying. |

10 Nov 2009, 2:09 PM ![]() | Re: Indonesian in a year? Although Indo is an easier language to learn, there are still nuances that can't be picked up by a casual learning in the space of one year (no matter how hard you work at it) So, my advice (and it seems to be similar to most of the other posters) is, unless you're on a South-East Asian background (esp. Indo or Malay); or if you have an extraordinary aptitude at languages, then refrain from picking up Indo for a year. If you want a subject that is relatively easy and will get you marks, do something like Further or Theatre Studies...it'll be so much easier to learn and pick up than Indo.

18 Nov 2009, 9:41 PM ![]() | Re: Indonesian in a year? I'm actually kind of offended that anyone thinks they would be able to pick up a language as a 3/4 without any previous study. I've studied Indonesian since Primary School. It's always been my favourite subject. I worked incredibly hard on it in VCE (although I enjoyed studying, so it wasn't that hard, really) and I got a 46 raw last year. Anyone that thinks they are capable of getting any sort of decent score without previous knowledge of the language is kidding themselves. |
