Latin - How Do You Do It?

I'm doing Latin 1/2 at the moment.. Let me say I find it terribly hard - especially the translation. Vocabulary I have no troubles with.. but besides that I'm pretty much crap it.

How would you recommend me and the others who might have trouble in Latin to tackle it?

Thanks!

Re: Latin - How Do You Do It?

Hey,

I may be able to help you out here, i'm doing Latin 3/4 at the moment, and to be honest, i only started to really put in effort last year.

There are some simple things that i've found that can make a huge difference..... but you're not going to like them.

A massive help is Latin Podcasts. If you have an ipod, or are dedicated to your computer, then these are brilliant. they're free from itunes, more than you could ever want to listen to, of a guy speaking simple latin sentences. some are on grammar, others are straight latin, and then there are latin-english ones which are the most helpful. the problem is, the best way to learn is to REPEAT what he says OUT LOUD. this may make you look silly.

Another thing i do is i have put on my wardrobe doors, all the verb conjugations that i need. it's a big space. and it's not cool. but it works. i also have nouns and vocab on my walls. stop judging me.

And since you're doing 1/2, i have one final piece of advice: go and read The Aeneid by Virgil. Do it. This Weekend. BUT make sure you read a translation by DAVID WEST! this reads like lord of the rings rather than a complex poem, and you'll need it for next year.

Cheers
Isaac

Re: Latin - How Do You Do It?

haha i was always great at latin, not to boast lol,
but then yr 10 idk there was sooo much grammar crammed into us that no one absorbed anything and then we started getting unseens nd sh!t and haha idk we all seemed to fail - that was the yr heaps of poeple decided to drop for 1/2

this yr ive gotten used to the unseens, they only get slightly harder and much more do-able, you start to look at details, but omg we do all this gay sh!t like poetry analysis - this is a second language not literature class!

and ughh its so bad its so freaking retarded - like our teacher goes through it and its all easy, we write it up and suddenly its all wrong, shes like you gotta tell me what you think not what i tell you

and yr 11 is a masssssive work load so from like A+s ive gone to mostly As and ive been really dissapointed with that to be honest ugh
im gonna do lots of work during the summer, but just atm im barely keeping up with all my subjects, theyre demanding
