| Member | Tutors You can hide this advertisement by registering. How many of you have them? For which subjects? your weaker ones?I don't see what the whole deal about them is. There are some who spoonfeed you all the answers and they cost a fortune - for some people. I'd rather do it ll myself :P and ask my teachers at school whatever i'm stuck on ocassionally. So, what is your tutor like? do they help you for a few hours or you get them just before you have a SAC? Let's here your opinions! Kep

Also as reg. said, for LOTES tutors really will give you an extra edge, there's only so much practice you can get with one teacher and 20 kids in a class run in English (my experience in my Italian class).

14 Feb 2009, 12:46 PM ![]() | Re: Tutors yeh loads of people at my school have tutors too. iv been meaning to get a french one forever, but i still havnt gotten around to it. but i think lote tutors are different, i just wanted one less for vce and more to keep up my spoken french after an exchange, because you just dont have enough oppurtunities to speak french in general life. still think ill get one soon, so i can work on oral exam preparation a bit. french is probably my strongest subject through. still iv decided im gona do yr 12 without tutors and without going to lectureeess except for french lol. and a compulsory french lecture thing i have to go to which isnt really my fault ha. i dont really like it how people have tutors.. some of the ones that have french ones, they write all their things in correct french etc and it just seems so dodge. for maths i understand, they just explain concepts and stuff, but some other subjects i duno.. |

| s00 l33t xD | Re: Tutors Tutors are really useful for difficult subjects such as English/ Math/ Sci / Econ (well, excluding any outlier people). But subjects such as Acc / Bus. Man, really don't need tutors. Practice is more of the essence in those subjects (or rememberance, the case for bus. man) (even though practice is still important for all subs).

| Banned | Re: Tutors Hm.. I like teaching the concepts, but I've found that I don't have to say much before my students say they get it. Not sure if I should elaborate or just let them get it. Sometimes if I sense their thinking is still slightly flawed, I will re-explain. What do you guys think? I used to have much longer conceptual 'talks' with my friends when we were cramming for end of years at state library. |

14 Feb 2009, 12:46 PM ![]() | Re: Tutors i think lots of people say they get things when they dont really.. they get it on a superficial level, but they wouldnt be able to apply it to a different situation.. if you feel like they havnt entirely grasped it, id get them to re explain it themselves or apply it to an example so you can make sure they've really got it. if not, then you can try again. ps. anyone know of any good french tutors? |

12 Apr 2009, 1:07 PM ![]() | Re: Tutors I understand how tutors can be helpful for some people, in fact, I've been thinking about becoming a tutor next year if my VCE results don't suck. However, I think one of the best things you can do is really struggle in a subject and try to work it all out yourself. It's amazing how much you understand when you're overcoming your difficulties by yourself through reading and practise. This isn't always feesable though. I guess I'm lucky in that I don't have trouble understanding what we learn in class and so for me its all about honing my skills and memorising information, which I think a tutor can help with but only to a limited extent. Ultimately, a tutor can't MAKE you study enough to get a good result, most of it you have to figure out yourself.

It may be harming my income to do so, but I strongly advise against getting tutors unless you are struggling to the point where you simply cannot comprehend what's going on in the subject. If anyone's wondering why someone who graduated last year has just now come back to a VCE forum, don't ask me -- I'm just as in the dark about it as you.

23 Nov 2007, 12:32 AM ![]() | Re: Tutors tutor jack in springvale is the greatest tutor in victoria no questions about it. (it is in classes however, not one on one) ive been through many tutors before but he is in his own leauge. i could not go to chem classes at school and still easily manage an A+ sac avg with our sacs (which is the case becuase our teacher is so shit does no work, is on her laptop 24/7 and does NO examples at all) and he does spec/methods/physics/chem id go as far as saying he has easily contributed 20 enter points to my score (however statistically wrong that may be, but you get it )all for the price of 20$ for 2 hours im sure some people from here go there and can vouch for his awsomeness Last edited by maxleng; 1 Sep 2007 at 4:32 PM. |
