Wink Freaky ppl who got 99.95

You can hide this advertisement by registering.
If you know a person who got 99.95, how did he/she study through out the year?

I know one and she's probably the biggest slacker i've met :P.

I also know a person who studies 15 hours a day and never really do well in his exams.

Does the amount of effort you put in really equate to your achievements?

It really depends on how serious and how badly you want to do well in your subject(s). And even if your friend is a big slacker, there is really no way you can determine what she does during the time you're not with her. She might have been studying and you wouldn't know.

But your ENTER doesn't always necessarily associate with your overall personal characteristic, however studying 15 hours a day doesn't sound very healthy to me.

Well, i don't know anyone who got 99.95 yet.

But I think the amount of time and effort you put into study doesn't equate to your achievements. For example, I spent about 2 hours each day on doing methods questions during the week before a SAC, and ended up getting 78%. Then I learnt to be selective in doing questions, so, instead of wasting time on doing all similar theory based question, I tried to focus more on doing example questions, and only select 1or 2 questions in each large questions,I got 98% for doing that.

Regarding to the person who studies 15 hours a day, IMO, he/she is ill-treating himself. He could be either studying irrevalent materials, or exhausted to the limit by the time he walks into the Exam rooms.

bottom line: Knowing the study design, Exam questions and Key ideas are far important than spending X^n amount of time on sitting infront of the table and doing "everything". Also, revising constantly is a non-neglectable element to succeed along the year.=)

I definitely agree with monokekie on that point about people who study excessively.

If they're not yielding great results from such a long amount of study time (which I assume also includes school?), then they're obviously not concentrating when they're studying, that or they're studying irrelevant materials.

Re: Freaky ppl who got 99.95

I'm taking it your friend is practically a genius to have done that well with alleged little study.

Really though, from the people I know who achieved high 90's, you're going to have to:

A) Work hard. I don't mean spending every waking moment studying, but you're going to have to dedicate your life to it. This means school is your paramount priority, and you need to spend at least ~4 hours a night studying.

B) Work smart. You need to develop studying techniques that are efficient as possible. You need to identify methods of learning that work well for you, and those which don't.

Whilst the latter is probably more important, and you can probably get a very decent enter (high 80's+) with basically smart studying alone, if you want the top of the state, you need an effective combination of the two.

Re: Freaky ppl who got 99.95

In the year above me there were 5 on 99.95. And with them i think while there is definately a level of ability and intellect at play, its also a lot of work. I'm not really sure you can get that high a UAI without ANY work.

I didn't study most nights

Having 10 free periods a week (out of 35) makes it easy to do any homework at school instead, mind you.

Agreed.

But school as we know, is a full time job without a doubt. Studying will come in time along with determination but there is really no need to set a daily basis of at least 4 hours each night. However, whilst this does work for most people, studying has always been the down fall to many who cannot concentrate. But studying and working can be fun and it doesn't have to be straight reading and writing or memorising.

We are all individuals as we speak and so we all must have different learning styles. The challenge is to adapt to it and stick to that routine. And even students who force themselves to study do not end up being high achievers in the end. Don't study, learn.

Re: Freaky ppl who got 99.95

95.8 is nowhere close to a 99.95 dude...
Well, for HSC it isn't
I got around that range for HSC.

my school had 9 100s and 11~ 99.95s. My study was not a rigourous as some. However my study was 'smarter' study, because i had to effectively balance many factors etc.
THose people are still very good however =P Work hard and smart = win

Re: Freaky ppl who got 99.95

It's not how long you study, but how efficiently and effectively you study. If you study for hours on end while "multitasking" you're not going to get high marks. There's also a limit to how much study you can do daily before it starts to become useless...

And people who get 99.95 can NEVER be "slackers". I don't care how smart they are, they have to work hard. They probably just seem like that, but actually study hard when you can't see them. It's just not possible to get that high while slacking off. I obviously don't know your friend, so I can't really comment on her, but people who say they "never study" and get high marks (high 90s) are most likely bullshitting, and make others feel like shit. Even if somehow they didn't study, they really shouldn't say it. I'm ranting here but anyway...

at Nerd333...I think you're a bit out of perspective there...95.8 is really nowhere near a 99.95

at dp624: a school with 9 people with 100s and 11 with 99.95s? are you serious? For VCE that just isn't possible. There isn't even a 100 mark, and around 5 with 99.95 is probably the max. Are NSW schools massive or something?

I'm guessing he goes to James Ruse or something, the main selective school in Sydney. They get much better results than even Melbourne High or MacRob do.

Wow this James Ruse school sounds pro. I heard NSW has heaps of selective schools though? How does this one become so much proer than the rest? And is it excessively Asian like MHS/Macrob?
