University enhancement: Maths

You can hide this advertisement by registering.
I'm Currently in Year 11, I am doing the following subjects:

Methods
GMA(specialist leadup)
English
Chemistry
3/4 History Revolutions
3/4 Psychology

I'm am doing well in all but methods and chem (by not doing so well I mean I have had less than 90% in both)

I am a pretty good maths student, but some of the methods GMA study area is new to me, We have not yet done calculus (differentiation etc.) Next year I will have 4 subjects and I was looking to do a Uni enhancement subject. Of the subjects offered at my school, maths is the only one I find interesting (although I would like to do IT but it is not offered). The Uni that my school offers is monash.

My methods teachers says it will be harder than spesh and that I will have trouble keeping up with spesh and methods next year.

I want to know what people who have done maths uni enhancement, though and how well they were going before doing it. also did it help you other maths subjects? Did you finish methods in year 11 before doing uni maths?

If I don't do the uni subject I will have to pick up something and I am not sure what that wil be.

Thanks

Re: University enhancement: Maths

I think it would depend on how you go in for 3/4's this year. If you go well in them I would suggest doing it. However if you don't go well in them you might be looking to do a subject that you can use in your primary four.

Re: University enhancement: Maths

The university enhancement maths is primarily for people who do methods 3/4 in year 11.
Unless ur finding spesch/methods too easy, I'd advise you to focus on going well in ur 3/4's this year (dont stress over 1/2's), then focus on spesh/english next year.
also depends on what uni course u wanna do (i.e enhancement will help you if you plan on doing maths at uni)

uni enhancements boost aggregate scores by:

5.5 points if you're 80-100%
5 points if you're 60-80%
4 points if you're 40-60%
0 points if you're <40%

... that's from the top of my head; it's best to double check with teachers.

Is that for all of them? I would have thought each would be slightly different depending on course/uni etc....

nah, it should be the same for all unis, whether it be monash, melbourne or victoria uni.

Re: University enhancement: Maths

Uni maths is not the same as at VCE - in VCE the questions are twisted and tricky. At uni level they are like the ones found in the textbook. This makes it much easier since as long as you know the theory you will do VERY WELL. Trust me. I did ENG1090 which is the same level as enhancement and I got 87/100 (didn't study that much either). I you would like I can even tutor you. Pick it if you can .... it a good way to score 5.5

Re: University enhancement: Maths

i would say not to worry.

if you are getting around 90% for all your subjects, including methods, chem, spec and english, you should be ok for a high 90's

methods and spec is a hard combo, especially around exam time.

the good thing though is some spec work you do in methods, so methods is pretty easy around exam time, but spec is insane

the 0 is if you fail whereas a pass is enough for 4 points
