22 Oct 2009, 10:37 PM ![]() | Info? "HSC Success: Mental Blank" ?? You can hide this advertisement by registering. I, like all, want to do well in my HSC. I've been recently leaning towards company called Mental Blank that promises to help you through Years 11 and 12 and get you the best UAI (or ATAR if u perfer) that you can possibly achieve through using formulas that work, blah blah blah.My question is, and this is to those that have possibly been through the 2 year course, or have a friend, or something (basically I don't want first impressions without any light shined upon) about this course as to whether or not it is really beneficial and actually works. Thanks. Demo |

19 Nov 2009, 10:56 PM ![]() | Re: Info? "HSC Success: Mental Blank" ?? hey! i've actually am doing/participating in the "mental blank" program. i've been in it for about 1.5 years? something like that... i found it helpful to some extent (e.g. in the monthly sessions, they go through techniques specifically for vce english, such as text response, etc), and i've learnt a bit on "effective studying", but honestly... most of the stuff i've learnt you can easily pick up by going to your local library and borrowing those "how to study" books / googling "exam techniques". i think that for the extremely steep price (it's like over $1000 per kid!), this program is simply not worth it. D: i recommend NOT doing it... it's just so expensive, and what you get back is pretty ordinary stuff you can get easily from books/internet. however, if the prices were significantly lower (maybe $100!), then it would be alright. i feel so guilty that my dad is paying a lot of money for this program, where it could be better spent on something else... learn from my mistakes! and yes. "hotchic2222" was probably someone who works with "mental blank"... it does sound suss. :/ and anyway, what kind of username is that?!

Yesterday, 1:29 PM ![]() | Re: Info? "HSC Success: Mental Blank" ?? its a load of crap, dont buy it. i went to a seminar and didnt like it much at all. during the whole seminar the guy was impressing everybody by recalling the names of like 20 people in the room but when i went to talk to him after the lecture he couldnt remember my name because i was a late inclusion to the seminar, so he probably revised all the names for like 2 whole weeks which is a bit sad i reckon. also they tried to impress the others by using mnemonic techniques taught in vce psych 3/4 (which i finished) such as peg-word method and narrative chaining. he basically taught us the serial position effect wrongly too, he pointed out that if u study three subjects in a row then you will forget the second subject you studied but the serial position effect is for words and nonsense syllables. i think he was referring to interference but thats not even interference if the subjects are different to each other. it was all dodgy to me |

20 Nov 2009, 6:08 PM ![]() | Re: Info? "HSC Success: Mental Blank" ?? Yeah heaps of bad reviews relating to Mental Blank, Heaps of people calling it a scam, definitely avoid. Even though I didn't bother with any lectures or anything but if you're planning on going to any, go to the reputable companies such as TSFX, TSSM, Access Education etc. Tired of looking at the positions advertised on the Monash Careers board from Mental Blank. wow now that is sad, probably will back fire on you guys.. lame attempt.
