Anxious

I'm currently in Year 11 and next year is going to be major seriousness for me. I really want to get an ENTER score of at least 92. I don't know if I would be able to. This year has been quite a bludge for me and I'm thinking of revising during the holidays.. Any tips/ideas on how to get this anxiety out of me! XDDD

Re: Anxious

One word. Relax.

I'm in year 11, and although I can see why you're stressing (the courses I'm aiming for have cut offs well above 99!), it's really important that you take the time to chill out over the holidays. Do things that you enjoy - you might feel a bit too pressed once school resumes.

However, if you're stressed to the point of being unable to have fun, consider:
  • Revising the main concepts from your 1/2 subjects that relate to your 3/4 studies
  • Keeping a journal or blog - if you're writing often (in standard English), you might notice an improvement in your English skills
  • Watching movies/reading newspapers in another language if you're studying a LOTE
  • Relating any sciences that you're studying to the real world
  • Keeping a scrapbook of relevant media articles if you're studying English Language or Economics
  • Reading books about the subjects that you're taking
Don't try to cram the course before you start school: unless you're incredibly intelligent, you'll probably find that you struggle with some areas, and that could induce further stress. You're also more likely to learn efficiently if you have a teacher clearly explaining the concepts, and unless you have a tutor over the break, you won't have access to one until year 12. If you really want to do some proper study, read your texts and flick through your textbooks to familiarise yourself with the content.

Also keep in mind that if you don't get that 92, it's not the end of the world - there are probably many ways for you to attain entrance into your desired course!

Just thought I'd point out that you won't get an ENTER, the entire country moves to ATARs next yr

Isn't it, however, the same thing in theory? It just means the scoring system goes beyond Victoria, right? So it needs a new fancy abbreviation.

Either way, to the poster, don't stress. The only real difference between Yr. 11 and Yr. 12 is the work load, same stuff... Just more of it.

You'll be so busy getting stuff done you wont even notice the time fly, so just be sure to stay true to your priorities and you'll get so used to the flow of things you wont have time to be anxious.

You have to sort of sacrifice your year if you want a high enter/ATAR. But, that's the price we pay for having big dreams.

Good luck.
