Re: well, it is done

Way, way easier than I expected (I did my context on The Kite Runner and the encountering conflict/creating and presenting on Omagh as a creative piece). I flew right past it, made sure to double check my grammar and spelling and structure. Pretty confident I'm going to get the score I want.

Hope the examiners agree!

Re: well, it is done

Extremely well, considering the amount of sleep that i was able to get last night >.<

If i am ranked approximately 40th out of a cohort of around 250+, should i worry too much about this? I felt as though the analysis essay i wrote was terrible, and then as i started to wake up (coffee =)) did much better on the context and then text essay. Thoughts anyone?

Re: well, it is done

I hated the whose realiy prompt. Really Struggled with that one.
The language analysis was okay, I was relieved that we didnt have to do two different articles.
Look Both Ways was a great prompt.

Horribly.
I am a chronic insomniac and last night was the worst.
I got to sleep at 5:30 this morning. Then went horribly
in the exam. Could not think at all, worst ideas..

On the more optimistic note, essay was well done.

Ill scrap in a 30 I reckon.

Say if I got
Context: 4
LA: 4
Text Resp: 7-8

What sort of mark do you think that will be?

C+/B?

My four hours seems to be adequate in comparison to that.. Tough break, can only imagine how that feels.

Re: well, it is done

I thought I went really well.

I did Richard III for my Text Response. Chose option ii) "For all its emphasis on power, much of the play is actually concerned with powerlessness" In What ways is powerlessness important to Richard III. Divided my 3 paragraphs into: Those who have power and use it on the powerlessness, women who are thought to be powerless by Richard but actually have their "words", the murder of the young princes and the feel of the general populous (which I spelt wrong in the essay, forgot the u in oUs).

I used Catcher in the Rye for my Context Piece. The identity and belonging quote/prompt, was one that I had planned to use in my piece beforehand, a quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson, and that was good because I was able to explain some background to it and I had done a lot of work with incorporating it into a piece of writing.

Thought that the language analysis was really quite easy to do. Lots of good use of persuasive techniques which can be explained.

Hoping for:
Text Response - 8
Writing in Context - 9
Language Analysis - 8

Which should give me an A+, but would be very happy with A.

Hope everyone did well,
and hope you are pleased with your results.

Section C, Language analysis was quite a challenge. Managed to finish it within the last 20 minutes though. I'd be happy with a 32

Re: well, it is done

Overall I think I did ok, really hoping to get an A

SECTION A - Generals die in Bed, did the second prompt with the 15 or so letter word that WASNT EVEN IN THE DICTIONARY! So i guessed it was just something to do with humanity (and apparently it was). Started from obvious conditions of the trenches and progressed to complicated discussion of how in a few brieft moments they can show support and comfort to one another. Approx 800 words and hoping to get 8/10

SECTION B - Whose Reality? Did the section last and stuggled on time. Wrote an imaginative feature article poorly refering to 'Enduring Love' and 'Eternal Sunshine'. Only done about 600 if i'm lucky. Fingers crossed to get atleast 6/10

SECTION C - First reaction was WTF?! To my opinion this was a very poorly written piece with limited persuasive techniques, and the topic was a bit dodgy too. Took me some time in reading to actually identify the most effective persuasive techniques and the contention. In comparison to last years article this was TERRIBLE! Dont know whether im just not a good enoigh English student but half the first page was utter rubish! However, the visual saved me though as i managed to write a good paragraph on this and managed to put in a few quotes from the text which it reflects. So hopefully with a good structure, good analysis of the picture and 800 words i'll get 8/10, or atleast a 7/10.

Re: well, it is done

I thought the Language Analysis was on the contrary the easiest. I think i mentioned the rhetorical question, appeal to logic and common sense, generalization and facts & figures, with emphasis on the writer's confidence and her ability to hone in on practicality, making the reader feel as though he/she is illogical in not conforming to the writer's viewpoint.

As usual the only hint of hesitation I had in writing came with the text response, after a paragraph I had to scrap it and restart. Still very happy with the outcome though.

Really, half of my responses were due to sheer luck with the great prompts. Adrenaline really kicks in after the first 10-20 minutes in which you're then pretty much on Cruz control.

Re: well, it is done

@ndawg - that doesnt seem much..but did you have a good plan?
I've heard of speculation that examiners might refer to the plan for incomplete essays? Don't know if its true, but something to hope for

Re: well, it is done

@fireworks: That's just really bad luck in a nutshell. D: Good luck. Chances are you'll do better on your other exams, if it's any consolation. English is the first, and I reckon most people are revising their studying techniques after this to better prepare for the ones ahead. Just focus on your next exams, set a bed time and even if you can't sleep, just lay there in the dark. It'll come eventually. Well, lets just say it's better than getting up and doing other things that would keep your body alert.

@ndawg: That's a toughy. I'm sure examiners have some sort of plan on how they go about unfinished work, but still... D: At least now you can start doing more practice examples for whatever other humanities subjects you still have to do an exam for, and try to focus on writing to time. That way you can ace your other exams and hopefully that can make up some points for your enter if this 'unfinished business' becomes a problem for your English score.

I'm sorry, but i'm almost certain that the examiners are not meant to mark anything you have written on the pages (on the left) set aside for planning.
