I was wondering how many marks you can afford to lose in your exams and SACs in order to get a 50 in Further. Please reply!

i lost 5 marks in further (both exams), 87% sacs (not very high rank) and got 44 raw
so id say 0 on exams and rank 1-5 sacs

Well you would want to try and be at the top of your class with all Further SAC's as your ranking in your school is crutial to getting the magical 50 (Y)

I know a guy who got 50 and he was ranked 1 at his school got 39 out of 40 for Exam1 and 60 out of 60 for Exam2. So you can make only one mistake at best

If you got 49 for maths methods you should get a 50 with further maths easily!

Gee you were in year 11 and got a 49 and a 50.

If you keep those marks up you should easily manage a 99+ (potentially 99.95)

I have a friend who got a 46 for maths methods, 41 for accounting, 43 for specialist maths, 43 for physics, 43 for chemistry, 40 for english and 88% for UMEP and he got 99.2.

Further differs from most other subjects though, in that getting a 50 is less reliant on your knowledge of the material, and more about making less stupid mistakes than everyone else.

Re: A 50 in Further Mathematics

I did next to no revision for the exam, all I did was the practice exams from the last two years which my Further teacher made my cohort do, also I was too lazy to make my own bound reference for the exam so I just used my textbook as bound reference and got 43 Raw, I did completely screw the first exam which was MC, lost a fair few marks there, got close to full marking the second exam though..

Agreed but it's also about who works harder to rectify making those stupid mistakes.

Re: A 50 in Further Mathematics

its all moderated, it depends how other ppl who do the subject go, it will change from year to year, however i would guess that you'd have to be ranked 1 in sacs and get very little wrong in the exam, maybe 3 marks absolute maximum

Does that get scaled down to a study score of 39?

Re: A 50 in Further Mathematics

From what our teacher has told us, you can't afford to lose any marks and you MUST be ranked first or equal first.

Heh, with my SAC marks so far this year, I don't think I can even get a 40+ now.

An A on my first (most important SAC) and a D+ on the second SAC xD. Got a big class and I'm ranked above average tho.

I reckon I'll do better on my third SAC this coming Tuesday, but still, unless i don't drop any marks on the exam (unlikely) I' aiming for anything 30+.

Re: A 50 in Further Mathematics

Think if you go to a good school you can be ranked in the top few and still get 50. I know for a fact that a few of my friends who 50'd Further weren't ranked 1st or 2nd, but were around the top 5 vicinity. They got close to full marks on the exams though. I was ranked in the middle of my cohort, and got 43 (I absolutely screwed exam 1 though)

Re: A 50 in Further Mathematics

considering the competition how many people iin the state get 50 for further? it seems like specialist is a dying subject now that everyone is switching from specialist to further is getting 40-50. is it even nessacery to even do specialist? because very few vce courses require it as a pre requiste
