I was beginning to get a sinking feeling. But then I read the next parts and realised that I knew almost everything else (at least partially), so I think I did rather well. Although question 12 of the multiple choice didn't seem to have an answer. That's the one about Darwin's theories. I ended up choosing: "Darwin stated that: C. Every member of a population has an equal chance of reproductive success" |

I think I picked B but I can't remember what it was. I ruled out C because that's dependent on the phenotype of the member, and not every member will have the same phenotype. Darwin realised that some members of the population were better adapted to their environment and therefore had a better chance of reproductive success.

19 Nov 2009, 9:26 PM ![]() | Re: Well, it is done I found this exam really difficult, especially compared to the Mid year. I didn't like how all the questions were pretty much application and some answers in the multiple choice threw me off. I'm really disappointed with how I went. |

Literally everybody that I have spoken to has said the same thing, myself included. I was hoping for around 95% but no way, not with that exam. It wasn't easy at all. Perhaps the A+ cut off will even move down! You've probably done a lot better than what you thought you have, and will come out with an ace mark.

Yesterday, 5:28 PM ![]() | Re: Well, it is done The MCQs were fair I thought, though some threw me off. I guessed about three or four, which is really disappointing since I usually never guess MCQ. Suppose it was the nerves and the five-minutes-writing-time-left-ness. As for SA - it wasn't ridiculously difficult but neither was it easy. I think time was a problem for most people. In the mid year, there was a lot of 'label diagrams' and 'name structure X' (one worded answers), whereas end of year requires more extensive explanations and reading, so it's more time consuming. The last two pages I didn't handle very well, again, probably due to having to answer it in the remaining few minutes. Overall, I didn't do great. I didn't even draw a dihybrid cross for that test cross question! I don't know what I was thinking!! I'm sure most people aren't feeling confident after that exam. Just remember this is typically the harder one out of the two, so I'd imagine a relatively low mark would suffice for an A (fingers crossed...). Last edited by cn121; 2 Nov 2009 at 5:48 PM. |

8 Nov 2009, 3:48 PM ![]() | Re: Well, it is done I thought it was a good exam; the questions themselves weren't too difficult, there were just a LOOOOOT of them. xD Everyone I talked to either finished right on time/with about three minutes left or didn't finish! The question that had me insanely WTF-ing was the one where you had to draw the gel electrophoresis of the non-suffering from CHS wagyu cow. =.= It was homozygous but was it the 105bp or 60 bp allele thing? WHO KNOWS. OTL;; Hope everyone is happy with how they went! YAAAY, IT'S ALL OVER~ X33 |

12 Nov 2009, 8:44 PM ![]() | Re: Well, it is done I thought it was very long. A lot of application questions. I hope I didn't stuff up on some easy questions, they're the ones that add up in the end especially if I didn't read the question properly. Does anyone have a copy of sample answers? I remember someone who got a 50 in previous years did it and posted it on here. Could someone do that this time round? Would be greatly appreciated. I want to know how I did, but at the same time I'm nervous because the more I think about it, the more I think I screwed up on questions. |

15 Nov 2009, 5:47 PM Blog Entries: 1 ![]() | Re: Well, it is done Is it bad that I managed to finish the whole exam in less than an hour, and I thought that there weren't as many questions as there first seemed to be and thenspend the rest of the time looking over my answers? I actually found it somewhat easier that mid-year too. I don't think I studied enough for mid-years though... @Shawn_of_Mega64: You think that's bad? Our book doesn't even have the two words "Binary fission" in the glossary nor index, nor do I believe I've ever seen it in the actual book, and I've read the entirety of Unit 4's chapters from front to back. @ maurka: Homozygous would mean that both the strands that would be cut into two by the restriction enzyme, so there would be two bands. One at 105, the other at 60 kbp. Also, for MCQ 12; why would a biologist be needed to say that a child looks like it's parents? But I suppose that IS the only possible answer. Guess I got that one wrong.... |
