7 Nov 2009, 1:00 PM ![]() | One challenging MC question You can hide this advertisement by registering. Which of the following is an example of negative reinforcement? A. grounding a teenager for misbehaving B. giving a student extra credit for class participation C. allowing a student to take an extra examination to gain a pass in the subject D. making a child sit in the corner until they say "I am sorry" Lets put it this way, I got 42/44 for the multiple choice. Apart from a stupid mistake, this is the only question I got wrong. I know what the answer is now (D), but would like someone to explain to me why it is correct, and why the answer I chose (C) was incorrect. |

14 Nov 2009, 12:57 PM ![]() | Re: One challenging MC question As the child has been taken away of a aversive stimulas (by sitting in the corner) to strengthen their behaviour and increasing the likelihood of it not occuring again. Hope that helps. Last edited by mtlz; 4 Nov 2009 at 6:34 PM. |

Today, 11:34 AM ![]() | Re: One challenging MC question Well making a child sit in the corner until they say sorry is the only one that seeks to strengthen a behaviour by removing a negative stimulus (which is what a negative reinforcer does). The third option does remove an unpleasant consequence (which is avoiding failing) but it doesn't say that taking the exam is a desired behaviour that has become reinforced. |
