Well, kaz is assuming that the 1.0 mol/L is the equilibrium concentration, but it isn't.

Assuming the reaction vessel is 1 L, at anytime, there can only be 1.0 mol of reactants,
i.e [x] + [y] = 1.0
x = 1.0 - [y]

At equilibrium, k = 10
therefore 10 = [y]/[x]
[y] = 10(1 - [y])
11[y] = 10
[y] = 0.91 mol/L
