I'm just steadily working through all three of my pieces (as I'm working in stages in all of them... i.e. slow dry time in oils). probably a third through them all so I need to pick up the pace a tad.

for my folio I've summarised some of the more important inspiration, then just gone through my exact process with a bit of conceptual explanation here and there.

(I'm taking photos of each step lol).

I'm the opposite! The prac side is stressing me out no-end!
I have spent 20 hours of my holidays so far on it. I wish it was all theory. I love theory!

Re: Studio Arts

No our prac is due first day back, which seems ridiculously late!
We're doing Gordon Bennett and John Brack.

And yeah we're doing censorship. I wrote a practise response and went to town on Bill Henson not being a pedophile and ended up getting a D+! I'm too scared to re-read it lol.

Re: Studio Arts

my folio theme was emotive portraiture.
i used bold contrasts to evoke a sense of particular "dark" emotions.
the subjects i used displayed scenes of social issues, like domestic violence, child abuse and body image.
my best photograph was exhibited at the local show in my council and it won first place in the proffessional photography section and best overall exhibit.

i only got a B+ for my design process because i failed to record every single detail about what i did to each image on photoshop. it WAS an A+ until VCAA came to re-mark.
my principal complained to the VCAA but they refused to reconsider the mark, claiming that it wasnt evident.
my teacher, who gave me the A+ said it was efficient to write in my book of insipration/design processes/experiments (whatever you wanna call it) to say that ALL of my photos had been contrast or levels adjusted in photoshop, if only a bit.
but VCAA had other ideas; i.e, my work look repeated with the same sentences over and over.

Re: Studio Arts

That sucks about the downgrade in marks!! Was it this year?? Or last year? (If it was this year when did VCAA come to your school? I didn't think they wouldve started so soon?)

I got A+ for both folios and hopefully VCAA doesn't come to my school and downgrade them! haha

BTW, How come nearly everyone is doing Bill Henson/Censorship!! When my teacher told me our issue (which is also censorship - I thought it was really good and that not many other schools would do it)... but I guess I am wrong!

... but meh, studio arts is my 10% subject.. I'm not really going to study for it.. although, I still expect a B+, A

Re: Studio Arts

I'm suprised about your topic being 'Bill Henson'. I though we had to have really specific issues related to our town.

Gah, the exam looks awful, especially since SA study scores are scalled down massively (40 to 36!). Do you guys agree? There is so much specific stuff to learn (preservation, conservation, copyright... blah) yet so many people I know have barely studied for this subject. Also, do you guys find people are really condecending about the subject, and other arts subjects? Like they think we only draw or take photos each lesson? Honestly, I have put more work into Studio Arts, with my folio (A+ XD) and prac works, than English or Literature, yet arts are seen as bludge subjects. But maybe that's just me.

Re: Studio Arts

hey
we still havent gotten our marks for end of year folio for stud yet
we thought we might have been audited, but just this week we were told we weren't so we could take all our work home.

the exam isnt as scary as i thought it would be. i only looked at previous exams quite recently (Stupid) but they seem fairly alright. i do psychology too so i need to know definition upon definition for that so a few for studio isnt a problem. i just need to actually remmber them
did horribly in the practice exam

and yeh people do overlook art subjects
everyone says its easy blah blah blah, but like i put in so much time to get it finished completely to hand in it wasnt funny, and it paid off for mid yr, got an A+

Re: Studio Arts

I was really worried about getting audited too. Oh, I meant my mid-year folio, I didn't really do a folio for my final artworks, in an A4 folder I included all my trials and anything the teacher suggested, and my Focus Statments of course. Did you guys do heaps for you end of year folios? Ritbuy, I know what you mean about psychology!! (trying to learn the forgetting curve numbers right now!) So good luck for tomorrow, and I'm glad someone agrees with me about the way SA gets viewed. It doesn't help that the VCAA scale up all the maths and sciences, they are totally different forms of learning. Gah.

Those who did photography, did you all go digital? I did, after heaps of experimenting (with materials, processes and techniques... O.o) But I included the analogue snaps in my folio too. Did anyone do anything really different? A friend of mine made an instalation in an abandoned house!

Wow, the exact same thing happened to me! Went from an A+ to a B+ (missed out on an A by a mark!). But it was more because our teacher (grrr) had told us to outline our potential solutions IN OUR WORKBRIEF which completely stifled the development process and was creatively restrictive. That was in Unit 3. Our Unit 4 stuff was also re-assessed.

PS. Anyone stressing out about the exam? I can't seem to retain any information about curatorship/presentation/conservation/exhibitions/copyright etc.

Re: Studio Arts

Is presentation related to preservation considerations in art galleries? Or is it comething else entirely?

Re: Studio Arts

Isn't presentation more about exhibiton design and the role of exhbition designers...but then you can also include conservation in it by saying the requirements when art works are on display...ie display cases, lighting, information for public, framing, how works are hung etc
I seem to have trouble discussing presentation.

Have you all done much preparation for the exam next week?

Re: Studio Arts

I did a lot of printing works, I did a few spray paint works with stencils, and a lot of screen printing, but in the end i did go with 2 final works as digital photographs, 1 of which was entered into the MGA's Top Shots exhibition which was pretty swell

i am not too worried with exam, i was thinking it was gonna be a lot harder, but from looking at previous years it doesnt seem AS difficult as i thought
none the less as studio is 1 of my main subjects, hoping for a high 40(49?), i am studying a lot harder for any of my others
does anyone do Studio and Art?
i did and it was really hard to juggle the both
but it ended well so thats good

Re: Studio Arts

My teacher for some reason ignored discussing the role of the curator and exhibition designer and I don't know what others =\
I'm also not sure how that relates to presentation which is not something I want to be realising 5 days before the exam! Ahh I'll wing it :P
I'm sure I'll read Presentation as Preservation or vice versa in the exam. Yay!
