Every year at about this time, we made a point of going to see Top Arts at the National Gallery of Victoria.

I did this since I was quite a tiny tot (about 10 years old?).

Are you going this year?

Have you been this year?

If you have been other years, how would you compare the quality of the artworks?

and

The National Gallery of Victoria doesn't seem to be working for me at the moment:

Re: Top Arts 2006

I'm going this term...some of the stuff on the national gallery website is awesome.
(both of those web addresses worked for me)
Our grade went last year as well and in comparison to the website and last year..i'm not entirely sure what the differences are..although it seems that there isn't much use of sculpure being put through to the top arts for last year...

I hope you can go.

What a shame about there being not as much sculpture.

Don't forget to record your thoughts and impressions, and try to go to the other Top Class things if they're to do with your subject, or just for general cultural enrichment and inspiration.

Re: Top Arts 2006

I went yesterday, and I went last year. It was alright, only I didn't understand a few things... like the piece with the 6 sheets of paper with the writing? I didn't get it, but maybe that was just me.

I also went to Top Designs, but that was a while back so I can't really remember much about it.

Re: Top Arts 2006

I didn't get that 6 sheets of paper either. The idea behind it was supposedly really smart, but I wouldn't classify it as art.

Anyway, the Top arts was amazing. The really big paintings and drawings were best of all.

*Look out for 'untitled' by Y Le. I saw that painting throughout its stages. Everytime I passed the art rooms at school, I went in to look at it and would stand in front of it for ages. That's what art should make you do I guess.

Re: Top Arts 2006

Did anyone see the photograph that some guy had made and based it on Plato's Cave? It just had a bunch of students in badly painted white suits standing in some random part of their school, all looking at the ground. Apart from the shoddiness of the actual photo, I didn't see much Plato's Cave in there. At least not the main, important parts.

But then there were some beautiful pieces too. A small image of a futuristic tower, the paper bag scrap drawings of cars and other junk, and those sort of lamp shade things with the ballerinas and whatnot. Sometimes you can't help but just feel in awe (and then go home crying about your own folio :S)

i went to top arts this year twice, once with our school and another with a friend.
i think its amazing at how talented some teenagers can be.

i've applied for top arts 2008, i hope i get in (if i do i think i will cry from a mix of emotions), it will mean all my hard work will be recognised by art loving bums.
