No.. theatre studies is pretty much just gay NIDA stuff.. pretty much, your taught to be a crappy monologe character... drama is a million times better. you create and devise your own work and develop your own solo performance in year 12 (7mins long).. definitely look towards drama as it allows a creative side to shine through.. However if you suck than do theatre studies, much harder to see you... hope i wasnt too pesimistic |

3 Nov 2009, 11:09 AM ![]() | Re: Difference between Theatre and Drama? The post above me is epic lies. Theatre Studies > Drama. The purpose is to study theatre, most devised by literary greats. Why write something crappy and mediocre yourself when you can take on and interpret a complex character? More of a challenge, I would say, but one that is fulfilling. That's my opinion, at least. Your school probably doesn't offer both of those subjects, by the way. Most schools pick one or the other. |

6 Nov 2009, 10:17 AM ![]() | Re: Difference between Theatre and Drama? um.. ok. lies. The purpose of drama is to allow yourself to be transformed into a character... Not let the character define you. Drama in itself allows you to be creative, and obviously you do suck at this cos you need someone or something to guide you. To be able to devise your own performance takes skill and the capacity to work non-naturalistically, which may i add is much more difficult than naturalistic theatre- which is very much so what you do in theatre studies as i am doing both. your a fool |

1 Nov 2009, 11:08 AM ![]() | Re: Difference between Theatre and Drama? In Theatre Studies you work with written scripts on interpretation and stagecraft. In Drama you are given a stimulus containing your character and points to include from which you write and develop the performance yourself, in a non-naturalistic style. Depending on your personal strengths and tastes one may be easier or more appealing than the other. |
