This means that a student who comes first in the 2 unit class may not necessarily be ranked first in the course, as he/she is being compared with those students undertaking both the 2 unit and the extension course."

ok say im ranked 20th in english advance but since i dont do english ext, will my assessment rank for english be worse now?

I doubt your class would have excluded Extension 1 students when determining your Advanced ranking, so, no.

if i had done extension english, would my english ranking be above someone who got the same advance mark than me but did not do ext?

No. Both classes are ranked on the basis of their Advanced marks.
