Is band 6 over 90 RAW marks out of 100 or over 90 SCALED marks out of 100?

I think it is just based on raw marks but I am not entirely sure.

P.S. if it is based on raw marks, does it mean that ANY raw marks in ANY subject over 90 is band 6?

Thanks in advance

I believe its based on scaled marks.

As if you have a raw mark of 89 and it gets scaled up to 91. You will recieve a Band 6. So you would be going from a band 5 to a band 6.

No. Its not based on "scaled marks", its based on "aligned marks". The term "scaled marks" refers to a process done by UAC when calculating the UAI, nothing to do with "bands".

Raw exam marks, mostly vary A LOT from your aligned mark that is reported to the student.

For example, in 2007,
3U Maths:
Total Raw Mark: 67-71/84 = 39.9-42.3/50
Aligned Exam Mark: 47/50=(approx)94/100 (=Band E4)

2U Maths:
Total Raw Mark: 102/120 = 85/100
Aligned Exam Mark: 93/100 (Band 6)

Thanks for info. By the way, how do they align it? Do they just align them according to their rank in that particular subject?

If so, aligning procedure would be same for all subjects as they will align them according to what they get (i.e. rank).

aligning is done so that students marks match their performance in accordance with the band descriptors.

U know, UAC doesnt really care if u get a band 6 or a band 5 when calculating ur UAI (which actually matters) . BOS just uses it to rank schools.

Yea. Anything 90+ for 2 Unit course = Band 6, or E4 for 1 unit course.

Yea but if you are an all rounder (band 6 in 10 units) you get a monetary prize. Unless NSW has become really stingy and doesnt do that anymore!

I don't know the technicalities of this, but I'm pretty sure raw marks don't do anything unless you do some calculations with it. So it seems pretty stupid to define a band 6 as anything above 90% in a single test.
