i dunno if this has been asked elsewhere, if it has, im sorry
ok, say their is a subject and no-one gets 100% in both the exam and school-based mark
but theres two people, one gets 99 exam, and 100 school-based
the other gets 100 exam and 99 school-based

coz the HSC is 50/50 exam and school based, does that mean they would both be equal first? like one wouldnt do better than the other?

To my knowledge yes thats correct. The two marks would average out to be the same, therefore making them both equal first.

Yep that is correct. They average the two, forming the (common) HSC mark of 99.5.

The Board stores marks to 1 decimal place; they're just rounded off on your certificates.
