99.95 is the highest possible rank or ATAR you could get with those subjects, I believe. Only General Maths and PDHPE have a reputation for being "capped" (having a maximum scaled mark less than 50/50 or 100%). Standard English may or may not be capped. Biology scales moderately well, Chemistry has great scaling in place. You do the minimum amount of units, ten, so you should given those subjects have plenty of time to put in a lot of effort and smart studying during free periods. This will ultimately yield a good ATAR if you are of average intelligence or greater.

Good luck. Follow your dreams. :)

it is possible to get a good ATAR with any subject combination
however, it is just harder

with general maths and standard english, 90 ATAR + is definitely achievable
95 + ATAR, you will have to work very very hard

it also depends on how well you do in your other subjects.

Welcome to the BoS!

In short, yes, you can

Explanation:

General Maths may or may not be capped, no one has ever gotten 50/50 in it. Biology is not capped, so is Chemistry, PDHPE is also capped for sure, with 50 getting 47.8 scaled.

If we go to 2008, English Standard does not appear to be capped (max of 48 scaled to 47.9), General Maths is almost certainly capped (49.5 is given to 45.5). In 2007, Standard English appears to be uncapped as well, with a 47 in 2007 scaled to 47.2. But in 2009 47 was scaled down to 46.4. In 2009, General Maths' 49.5 was scaled down to 45.3, 45.5 in 2008

So if those are your ten units, your max is: 50 (Bio), 50 (Chem), 47.9 (best ever for Std Engish), 45.5 (best ever for Gen Math), 47.8 (PDH for 50/50).

So therefore your maximum supposed aggregate is 482.4, as long as you don't break new ground by getting higher than the 'best ever', which when I say that, means breaks records set for the 2007, 2008 and 2009 HSC. 482.4 is 99.95 material, as the lowest aggregate for the 2009 HSC to get 99.95 is 478.9.

Few examples:

Yes it's possible to get a good ATAR with those subjects, although it's more difficult imo.

:), a lot of members ask this.

Those before have already answered basically. Generally it is harder to achieve a higher ATAR with subjects which have a comparatively low scaled median or mean, this includes General Maths. G. Maths is also capped (depending on the cohort's performance) meaning that even if you got a perfect score on the external exam and your internal mark (moderated) was also 100 (despite scaling only taking into consideration raw marks), your scaled mark could never be 50/50, rather it would be capped at it's limit - usually around 48.8.

Standard English has the same scaling as Advanced English but you will often hear people say that Advanced scales better. This is in fact wrong. UAC sets them equally but you will notice that on the released scaling data and tables that there is a better performance in Advanced English simply because there are stronger kids in that course overall.

In short, it is achievable, but very hard to get 99.80 and higher. I wish you luck in your endeavors.

Gen maths can go alright, i no people who got 98+ with gen math. P.E is easy if you put the effort in, you can easily get a band 6, my old school wasn't very high ranking and normally got shit result, but we would always get like 60% getting high band 6's like 95+, because the teachers always made everyone study really hard for it.

The highest anyone can get with any combination of subjects is 99.95 so anything is possible.
