...at my school.

So apparently the internal HSC marks - the ones that get reported to BOSTES at the end of the year together with the ranks - are being "moderated" by our school before they get sent to BOSTES.

In practice, I have a feeling this means that our school, whilst maintaining the rank order, is decreasing the difference in marks between each rank.

So, (as a purely fictional example), if the top marks at my school were 99, 95, 93, 87, the school might submit these marks as 99, 98, 97 and 96, maintaining the rank order but playing around with the differences.

This shouldn't really have any effect if the differences are adjusted by the same proportion. Unfortunately, I suspect this is not the case. In my example, the differences between each rank (4, 2 and 6) were all reduced to a difference of 1.

How would this impact on the moderation done by the Board?

This is not cool and if it's true I'm going to be really furious. I will also report this to BOSTES so they see what the consequences can range to...if it is true.
