Teachers say that the hsc is based off the syllabus but with a different verb.
If a dot point says "identify" will the hsc ever replace it with "explain"? but what if your school only gave you information on identify?

Yes, the infamous example is the slingshot effect in the physics test in 2014, the one in the syllabus said identify but in the test they fked everyone by saying explain. HSC in a nutshell 10/10 ign disapproved.

that fucking slingshot example was shit mate. Im sorry but i dont see the point of skimming over the explanation of a slingshot effect to further your understanding in 5 minutes. Srsly it just wanted us to indentify it in the syllabus. it goes faster when shit goes around the planet. thats sling shot effect liek fuck.

Just note that the example given was related to physics.

Personally, however, I reckon that example still satisfies the dot point. In identifying the slingshot effect, any band 6 student would know of all factors involved:
- Conservation of angular momentum
- Gravitational acceleration
- (In the context of the HSC course) motion of the planet about the Sun.
--------
Some dot points that say 'identify' don't just require you to know what happens (which in this case is a net acceleration on a space probe without consuming fuel). They want you to identify the procedure. So always be alert; keywords can be highly deceptive.
---------
Additionally, however, a GOOD teacher will actually know what a syllabus dot point encompasses. They will prepare you along the correct pathway regardless of how 'simplified' the verb can be.
