Hi everyone!
Would u need to be first internally in order to get a state rank? (you'd have to do well in the actual hsc exam ofc)
Or do u just need to be somewhere near the top (like top 5)?
Tnx :)

No, you don’t have to be first, though I imagine it depends on the school and the subject.

If your internal competition is strong, it doesn’t matter if a few people outrank you as your internal mark will still be high.

I know of people, myself among them who have achieved state ranks when ranked second, third, fourth and even fifth internally.

No if you’re 5th, I mean, realistically speaking.. not happening. If you’re 2nd/3rd tho, it’s possible, but it’s still extremely difficult unless the person ranked 1st in your subject is absolutely smashing state ranking and is exceptional and you’re like a mark away from them. So your school rank matters in this case (if it’s a top school) you’ll have a better chance in a stronger cohort opposed to being 2nd in a low ranking school. If the other person’s not getting one, your chances are slim.
