its all a game and i guess you have to play it, so fool them by getting involved in something now

sorry if i sound just a little bit cynical but in the interview it was like they thought u ruled a bloody country and had 50 yrs experience in everything...
Agreed that you shouldn't do something for the sake of impressing the interviewers but that being said, having something on your CV which shows you at least *tried* to do something outside what was required of you (proactiveness) as well as the potential that you learnt something from the experience is definitely worthwhile. Just because you did something for only a short period of time doesn't necessarily discount it's value.

And on a sidenote, interviewers aren't stupid. Just because they smile and nod their head at you whilst you regurgitate a memorised pile of ...., doesn't necessarily mean they believe you. If the partners are able to argue their way through accounting standards and calling bluff from clients whilst raising fees, I find it unlikely they can't get their head around a 17/18 year old high school student's claims.

so my interview wasnt too bad but still didnt go as well as i would have hoped..

then the whole concept of the 'interview' is rendered useless...

look at this stage i woud agree to disagree...

i actually have a question for you though - why did u choose to go to UNSW for your bcomm... at the interview it looked like practically all the cadets were doing a UTS degree, probably coz it was close to work.

how did you find travelling to and from UNSW from the city after work?

Does any of the big four firms have places for Transactions or Business Advisory as a cadet? or is it just tax and assurance?

Re: Accounting Cadetships 2009

Yep most of the Big 4 offer a couple of spots in Business Advisory. It's really much too early for this sort of talk. Wait until next year's Chartered Accountants Career Day. They'll have pamphlets at your school and advertise it at the website when more info comes out http://www.charteredaccountants.com.au/students

I think you guys should just stop worrying about this and enjoy the upcoming summer holidays.

Hey guys. I'm currently in year 12 and I'm really interested in this whole cadetship thing.

So other than the big 4 companies, does anyone know what other firms that offer cadetships?
And how does it work? So you go to each of their websites, sign up for info night, and what happens from there?

Thanks heaps guys.

I have a suspicion that trainee intakes are going to be utter rubbish in the coming years so I'd advise prospective highschool students to focus more on academia and getting into a really good/long unicourse.
