Really advice for the modern world, isn't it? |

if you look at that chapter from verse 26, you'll see that apostle paul is writing in refute of what was also written in 1 corinthians 11:5. 36-37 is the refuting of that wrong view. 1 Corinthians 14:36-37 (New International Version) 36Did the word of God originate with you? Or are you the only people it has reached? 37If anybody thinks he is a prophet or spiritually gifted, let him acknowledge that what I am writing to you is the Lord's command. good article on Jesus and feminism woman's right to preach the gospel (catherine booth, co-founder of the salvation army)

That's a copy/paste job from a biblical site which does not provide evidence for your argument. You will also find many branches of the church using that exact passage to support the view that women SHOULDN'T be allowed to preach. |

edit: 1 Timothy 2:11-12 (New International Version) 11A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. 12I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent.

Yesterday, 2:55 PM ![]() | Re: Random Protips for life yes like the catholic church, relying on the traditions of man over the word of God. unfortuately i cannot answer that question for you. you may find these articles somewhat helpful Examining the authenticity of 1 Corinthians 14:34-35… a review of various interpretations Correctly Interpreting 1 Corinthians 14:33b-35 (Part 1) | Articles | NTRF now if those several thousand word essays weren't sufficent then i've got nothing to offer you |

Personally, do you believe women should be permitted to preach? |

Yesterday, 2:55 PM ![]() | Re: Random Protips for life Quote:
in my opinion women have almost equal standing to men. Ephesians 5 Wives and Husbands 22Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. 23For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. 24Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything. 25Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26to make her holy, cleansing[b] her by the washing with water through the word, 27and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. 28In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29After all, no one ever hated his own body, but he feeds and cares for it, just as Christ does the church— 30for we are members of his body. 31"For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh."[c] 32This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church. 33However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband. if you look at the articles above, Christ 'ratically' changed the position of women by breaking old testament law (hebrew law).

I'm sorry, but even with Jesus' radical changes, the New Testament is still profoundly sexist. I could go on for hours about this, I thoroughly researched the issue before I stopped being a Christian. But yeah, I can't be bothered to type right now, and you will just counter me with other people's explanations from the internet. |

Yesterday, 2:55 PM ![]() | Re: Random Protips for life so what was it that made you stop being a christian? how long were you a christian? feel free to pm if you want. edit: you are probably aware of this, but i thought i'd go through it the new testament is composed of 27 books, the first 4 are the gospels, matthew, mark, luke and john then there's Acts which is a sort of recount of the early 'church (what happened after Jesus went to heaven, what the apostles did) following those are the letters sent mostly by paul to other 'churches' throughout asia minor, middle east, europe etc now the book of corinthians was the letters paul sent to the corinthian church Last edited by theism; 29 Sep 2009 at 10:53 PM. |
