Exclamation Modern-Ancient-Extension History History History Tutor

You can hide this advertisement by registering.

(rofl, now THAT was a HILARIOUS prefect campaign!)

Hmm, who are you?

Hi, I'm Hanjin.
And I'm a History Specialist, graduating 2006 from James Ruse.
AND I did no Maths and ALL HISTORY.

As you get to know me, and I'm sure you will, you will discover that one of my main passions in life is infact history. I have an extremely vibrant and outgoing personality, and I promise I will sweep you off your feet and make you fall in LUST with history.

Seriously.

Right, so are you actually qualified for the job?

For the Preliminary Modern History HSC, I received a perfect 100 marks, and topped the grade at James Ruse; and also received the
Macquarie University Humanities Award.

For the HSC Modern History, Ancient History, and Extension History, I topped all 3 histories at James Ruse, receiving Head Teacher Awards for Modern and Extension History. I received 3 further awards in 2007: J A Reid Medal for MOdern History, the James Ruse Medal for Ancient History and the James Ruse Medal for History Extention 2006. My Extension History essay received the top mark at school and was entered into the HTA Prize Essay Competition.

For HSC, I completed 5 units of History, 4 Units of English, and 2 Units of Economics, receiving the marks of:

Modern History: Internal (93); External (99); HSC = 95

Ancient History: Internal (95); External (98); HSC = 97
Extension History: Internal (45); External (41); HSC = 43
Extension 2 English: (48, 48, 48) I’m not teaching it, unless you are doing something history related of course

So you are a History Nerd. But do you actually know how to teach?

I am currently tutoring 17 students weekly for Selective School English Preparation, and also 3 students at High school English. I was a Peer Support Leader and was involved in the Mentoring Program for 2 years whilst in High School.

I have extremely high standards for myself when it comes to history, and when I teach, this is transferred onto the students. I will push you to the very limits of your capabilities, and then nudge you a little further. Of course, being 1-1 tutoring, I will adapt the speed, level and also the amount of homework to individual needs; ensuring that the top1-2-3 student can get the extra few marks at the top and the struggling student can reorient himself with the course and achieve a satisfactory result.

What do you have to offer?

For the 2 Year Course, I have two folders each 20cms thick full of:

1. My own exam papers and marked essays from James Ruse, with full explanation and source work. This is your chance to get an insight into how I plan, organize and construct my arguments.
Trust me, your teacher is tired of reading the same tired old response to the effects of Pacific Conflict on home fronts! Want a different approach that does more than describe, but actually ANALZYE the underlying socio-economic factors (that scored 20/20)?

2. My own personal notes taken in class. I’ll teach you how to extrapolate the significant parts of the course so you can study in the most efficient and effective manner. Vital information that cannot be missed!

3. I have notes to more than sixty historians and all their quotes and arguments. Don’t have time to read their books? I have everything you need for each course.
Why did WWI degrade to a war of attrition? Want to surprise your teacher with an answer that goes beyond what is taught in class? How about a paragraph in your essay about changing military operational doctrine by the contemporary military critic F.C Fuller?
Tired of getting 19/20 because you lack historians? Don’t hold yourself back!

I’ve got bad news for you.
History is not about the right or wrong answer, but about how well you can argue your case. Many students notice their marks fluctuate throughout the year – and this can be very detrimental (especially during the HSC year). It’s the result of poor technique.
And the good news is that it can be easily fixed with the right instructions.

Specifically, what part of the course do you cover?

Modern History:

Prelim:

-Germany: Rise of Nazism

I have full access to various textbooks and documentaries, as well as extensive collection of historian’s quotes, as well as the main arguments of their historical thesis to save you time from reading! I go beyond the basics covered at your school, and delve deeper into the interplay of socio-economic factors, nascent nationalism and the influence of fascism and ‘palingenetic revival’ on the 20th century Europe. It does not get any more deeper than this!

Main historians covered (I have fully documented notes on this historians and their books that I have made): Heiber (German revisionist), Robert Payne, Roger Griffin, Richard J. Evans, Bullock

-20th Century Russia (Society); and Nicholas II and Autocracy (Personality)

A wide and extensive survey of what it meant to be a Russian. It would be a superficial and low scoring answer if one attributed the cause of the 1905 Rev towards political mismanagement. I’ll teach you how to break out of our comfortable middle-class liberal bourgeois perspective, and learn to develop a multi-polar perspective on understanding the social, economic and political dimension of Russia, as well as the influence of its long and fragmented medieval history.

Main Historians covered: Chmielewski, Radzinski, Alfred Levin, Greg King, Robert K. Massie

-The World at the Beginning of the 20th Century

I have personally completed an independent thesis on the Battle of Jutland, and this greatly contributed to my understanding of the European powder keg, imperialism, nationalism, colonialism, militarism and foreign policy. This course is VITAL for a through understanding of the HSC World War I course. I delve beyond the liberal historians of this era, but also investigate the perspectives of French and German economists and social historians of the early 20th century.

HSC

- World War I

I focus extensively on the importance of historians and source analysis for this unit of study. The aim of this course would be first covering the overview of the war, and then the ideology and themes involved; before finally deconstructing and analysing these themes with a variety of historical perspectives in order to extrapolate the usefulness reliability of each of the sources. Without thoroughly understanding the background of the texts, a student can rarely achieve the top range of marks due to their answers lacking depth.

Main Historians covered: Lyn Macdonald, Winston Groom, Niall Ferguson, Mills, George Robb, Barbara Tuchman, Robert K. Massie, Alan Clark, Gary Sheffield, Corelli Barnett

- Russia and the Soviet Union 1917-1941 (Society) and Trotsky (Personality)

I have personally been examining the social-political makeup of the Russian system, and thus I have a great deal of expertise in this field. Building upon the lessons taught in the Prelim course, I will focus on the specific factors and how they crucially interact with Russian ideology and history. The study of Trotsky as a personality (I am personally both a critic and admirer of Marxism * I did not say communism) is explored in terms of both as an individual’s ambitions and accomplishments, but also within the framework of the Russian socio-political superstructure.

Main Historians covered:
Acton (Rethinking the Russian Revolution): offers a libertarian perspective
Alan Wood, Geoffrey Hosking (excellent analysis of Russia as an ideology), Issac Deutscher, Writings of Stalin, Writings of Trotsky, J.F. Aylett, John Laver, Robert Conquest, Rosenberg and Young,

-Conflict in the Pacific

An extremely controversial course, which makes it extremely interesting of course due to the depth of discussion possible on the validity of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, American military tactics, the effect of Japanese Co-Prosperity Sphere, and how it all interacts within the Japanese ideology, culture and historical context.

I used a vide variety of historians and historiographical modes; with American, Japanese, British, Australian and Chinese perspectives, written and oral history and primary sources such as contemporary newspapers.

Main Historians Covered:
Akiro Iriye, Capio, John Toland, David Askew, Haruko Taya Cook, John Costello, John W. Cooper, Keith Wheelock, Michael J. Hogan, Michael Slackman, Peter Chrisp, Ronald H. Spector

That’s only Modern, what about for Ancient and Extension History? I want to know more.

I will be happy to introduce to you what I have available if you PM or Email me. From above, you should be able to see I am clearly dedicated and serious about history, and I have both the skills and the wide range of sources available to provide the most comprehensive and effective history tutoring.

I challenge you to look for a more comprehensive and passionate history tutor.

Okay, I’m in love. How much and where do you live?

1 Hour Session = $50.00. (longer sessions negotiable)

The cost involves all onsite printing, as well as full support (after 7pm Weekdays, all day weekend until late) outside of class. That means if you have a question that needs urgent answer, you don't have to worry because I'll be there to help you.

I have an extremely busy and packed schedule with my current students, but I will try my best to fit you in because I love NOTHING more than passing on my passions.

I live 8minutes from Parramatta Station.

Re: Modern-Ancient-Extension History History History Tutor

Heya,

Just a few questings:

1. What topics did you do for Ancient History?
2. I haven't heard of the Macquarie University Humanities Award (neither has google), what is it?
3. I can't find your name on the HTA website. Is it under another name, is Han Jin an alias?
4. It's my understanding that someone else topped Ancient at your school - did you tie?

Thanks.

Re: Modern-Ancient-Extension History History History Tutor

Hi,

1. Core - Pompeii Herculaneum;; Fall of the Roman Republic;; Caesar (Personality);; Sparta

2. It's an award where two funny looking guys in tall hats (deans i imagine) come to your school and present you with a piece of paper saying just that;; and a prize (which I believe was a book on journalism).

3. I have also been eagerly waiting to find my name on the site! The 2006 Extension History essays are currently 'being judged'. http://www.htansw.asn.au/what/what.html#essays05

And obviously, I shall win the pot. =) =) =)

4. Indeed. However, since the person that topped my school only managed to do so by not attempting the exam (she got an estimate);; it seems that as a result she was disqualified from coming 1st. My ranking of 1st is according the information I retrieved from checking Studentonline.
Which is offline at this moment; otherwise I could copy paste it here. At the time, I called and confirmed this change with my HSC co-ordinator at school; and she confirmed this was correct and not to worry.

Hope that took care of your quibbles, and thank you for your concern.

Re: Modern-Ancient-Extension History History History Tutor

I will be away from the 31st to the 27th of Feb. If you are one of the students that have sent an email and not received a response, that is why.

A "standby" means that you are in line, and I will try to slot you in when my Uni timetables are out.

Thank you.

I did not come 1,2,3rd , but I did get a nice "sorry but lets just be friends" email :P

it is with genuine sadness that I have to write to say your splendid essay on Blitzkrieg 1939-40 was not rewarded with a prize. It was very, very close to a prize and I was one of the judges who was most impressed with the quality of your long months of research and excellent analysis. In the end it was the extent of your footnotes which caused enough judges to say that they were so full of detail as to constitute a technical breach of the length allowed. You are most certainly getting a Certificate of Excellence in the post when they have been done. I am taking the most unusual step in writing in detail about your essay because you clearly have done a massive amount of work on the area, probably for some time.

yeah, my word count was about 10,0o0 :P

Re: Modern-Ancient-Extension History History History Tutor

Positions are now very limitted, if you want History tutoring in time for your HSC, then respond ASAP. There is a university holiday break of one week when it is possible to have double lessons, more on that later.

Good luck to all history students with your Trials!

Re: Modern-Ancient-Extension History History History Tutor

Thanks a lot guys =)

Just finished my first year of University, studying Political Economy and International Relations (BA Int Studies) at University of Sydney. Focusing on Roman History, WWI - WWII to Modern period; meaning that my knowledge of history has been given a more political and world-relevent perspective.

Looking forward to teaching many of you!
