I have my red P's in an auto. I know i cant drive a manual until i get on my green P's (a year). If i want to learn in the meanwhile though what do i do?

Do i put on L plates when driving the manual? (or not...cause i technically no longer have a Learner license...)

I wouldn't have a clue. You might want to contact the RTA about that one.

I think you count as a LEARNER (ie. L Plates).

From memory though you don't get in trouble if you put on a lower-class plate on your car (eg. Red P's if you're on Green/Full) as long as you abide by the conditions of those plates (eg. 90km/h speed limit for Red P's). Don't quote me on this!

You're all wrong. I was in this exact same position.
I got my Red P's in an Auto. I am now on my Green P's and drive a manual.

I called the RTA and was told to display my Red P plates and have a fully licensed passenger in the car at all times.

You can legally drive a manual if you have a license that allows you to.
Don't question the logic of the RTA people.

Then they retrieve it and deep fry it, serve it with chips and lemon AND OVERCHARGE YOU BY $2.00

You can only drive manual on your red auto P's with a fully licensed driver next to you.
I think that's how you learn, though I could be mistaken, however that's how I remember it.

even if you have a full licenced driver with you and your driving a manual on red's you can still get a fine form the PO PO...my mate got done from it.

Best bet is to wait untill your on greens untill you cruise around in manual.

Yeah, i have my red p's auto license, but my teacher at school decided i need to learn how to drive a manual, so he has been teaching me.. as has my mum... at first i put L's plate on because i didnt want to look like an idiot with p plates on and stalling and stuff.... but now i drive with p plates on.. im pretty sure, it is the same rules as when your on your L's... licensed driver kind of thing...

The system down here is stupid.

How do you magically gain the knowledge to drive a manual after a year of driving an auto?
