Maths Methods Exam 1

The big one is tomorrow. Looking at past statistics hundreds of people get perfect scores. How does this help the distribution of results lol.Anyway good luck everyone.

maybe but i think monday is the bigger one, 3-400 people may get perfect scores tomorrow but few will do the same on monday. I heard that not one person got a perfect score over the two methods exams last year.

I'm hoping that I can get a 35> raw study score for this...

Crap, whenever I see these things and someone has posted ahead of the actual exam, i have this huge sinking feeling that somehow I've forgotten to go to the exam.

400? FUCK. That is a big no. How many people take methods? Study score givings are proportional to amount of people who study yeah.

No one obtained full marks on exam 2 last year even though it seemed a lot easier than 2003.

Hey, what did everyone else think of the exam? I generally found it easier than all the practice ones I've done... just scared that since this was easish they might give us like a super hard analysis exam.. hehe...

I'm pretty sure I aced the short answer section, it was pretty easy. I wasn't too sure about the last last question of that section but the derivative of 3^x according to my maths teacher is 3^x, so yeh!

My answers for multiple choice are below, though I couldn't do some of them..

1. D
2. B
3. ? I put d
4. E
5. D
6. D
7. E
8. D
9. E
10. A
11. E
12. A
13. B
14. C
15. D
16. A
17. B
18. C
19. C
20. C
21. C (my teacher thinks its D)
22. ?E
23. D
24. B
25. ?C
26. A
27. ?D (both b&c were the same??)

How is 27 a? isn't it b. With 13 i put D E looks more likely. Also with 22, there is no way it can be C, has to be E u would think and isn't 15 E?

13 is A, well a friend said he got all multi choice right 'cept for the last one (he went thru it with his teacher).

15 is D becuase all of (x^(3) +2) ) is dilated by a factor of a half not just the x on its own.

Not sure about 22 but I didn't think it could be C.

i got:
1D 2B 3D 4E 5D 6D 7E 8D 9E 10A 11D 12A 13A 14C 15D (should be E) 16A 17B 18C 19C 20C 21E (should be D) 22E (should be C) 23D 24B 25E 26B 27A

short answer
1. 0.952 (three dp)
2. graph of probability dist.
3. tan(x/2) not sure if you were meant to include asymptotes since they were at -pi and pi and domain was(-pi,pi).........any ideas? crossing x axis at -pi/(2) and y axis at 1
4. graph of (-2/(x+1)) + 2): didn't have to give equation, just draw.
5. graph of y=8-3e^(-x), x>=0 with asymptote at y=8 and y int at y=5
6. a) (x+2)(x^2 - 4x + 3)
b) (x+2)(x-3)(x-1) => x ints at: x=-2,1,3
c) i got area to be 21.08333 and i'm pretty sure that's right, checked with calc.
7.a) k=ln(3)
b) (d/dx)(3^x)=ln(3)(3^x)

I don't do methods but the I'm pretty sure the derivative of 3^x is not 3^x.

Damn i had 15 on my cheat sheet.

The derivative of 3^X has to be 3^x, like e^x?
