The Info Processing and Management exam is tomorrow at 3:15pm, who's ready? It should be quite easy - I've done a ton of study for it so I'm pretty much as prepared as one can be. ![]() Just thought it would be useful to have a discussion thread about it, though it looks like only a small handful of people undertake this. Anyway, best of luck to everyone! |

29 Apr 2009, 5:02 PM ![]() | I'll be sitting it tomorrow as well. ![]() I'm not overly concerned about it, I've been getting A+ for every SAC and my trial exam marks have been 85%+, even since the midyear exams, so I'm relatively confident and ready to go. Good luck to you, Dhruv! |

2 Jan 2006, 1:22 PM ![]() | I have this feeling that they're going to ask a really long question on the legal obligations... i hope they don't though... no matter how much i read over them i keep mixing them up!!!! |

| Assistant Member | Gilbo, I'm pretty much in the same position as you. I've gotten 90%+ on all SACs throughout the year and I've done a number of practice exams, so hopefully all should go well. One thing though, I did find it quite hard to self-mark prac exams because it's difficult to tell whether my responses would seem correct to the examiners. Roguedeth, yep, that Methods exam was quite the bitch. I'm just glad that I've been prioritising my other subjects over Methods all year, because I knew it would be my 5th. skillz, this is your first 3/4 exam, yeah? Don't stress about it too much, as long as you know your stuff you'll be fine. The largest questions on last year's exam was worth only 4 marks, so I don't think they will give us anything higher than that this year. As for legal obligations, I'm guessing there will be a multiple choice and/or a simple one-marker asking to identify the legal document that has been breached given a scenario. If I'm not mistaken they have never asked a question on national privacy principles in the past, so I think the legal documents are all we really need to know. My class is a bit of a concern - we have about 7 people, of which the majority have an average SAC mark of <50% and, as if that isn't enough, we have a horrible teacher to top it all off. Last year's average study score in our school for IPM was 14!! Oh well, I've done adequete study on my own, so hopefully I'm able to reach that A/A+ that I'm yearning for. |

So is mine.. i'm the only 1 in the class who has gotten a+ on my sacs all year.. and cos i go to a girls school i think most girls don't know much bout computers anyway!!! The thing i hate bout this subject though, is how it gets scaled down that's why i'm hoping to get an A+ or A for the exam otherwise i'm stuffed! I'm thinking after methods 2 exam nothing will look difficult.. this is kind of general knowledge, but it requires soo much writing!!! |

9 Nov 2005, 8:20 AM ![]() | If your ranked #1 in your class you have little to worry about. You don't need to be concerned about scaling, rankings, anything else. All you need to do is your best. You get 90% today, you'll get 45. You get 100% today, you'll get 50. If you get 80%, the worst that could happen is a measily 40... I was lucky enough to be ranked #1 in Info Sys last year, and scored 98% on the exam. I am once again ranked #1 this year in IPM. I am hoping for over 90% in todays exam to get 45+. Both subjects go down, but with a score in the mid-40s under your belt your almost there to getting an ENTER above 90. No point being concerned now. I am going through my last series of notes, went through an exam today. Just answer everything with a common sense approach. Link every idea to your case study. And use IPM concepts everytime. Address: Efficency vs Effectiveness, 5 components, a stage of the SDLC, the four different types of tests, nature of audience, nature of information, decision making (I hate that area the most) and so forth. The great thing about the subject is the ability to sub-divide every question into different areas and draw from it. Every concept has about 5 things in it, eg. effectiveness (accuracy, relevance, ease of use, attractiveness, clarity, completeness) which you can use as terms to sum up your answers. Drawing on that divides all your exam answers into different 'sub sections' that differentiate every idea you provide. As long as you remember 1 idea per mark, your set. Another one of my favourites is the ability to annotate questions with concepts, annotate drawings and diagrams with highlighters, and do tables and sketches on the side of your solutions. The examiners see this as more complex detailed understanding and can then more clearly understand your thought process in coming to a solution. Nothing is really *wrong* as long as it's different from the answer provided previously and comes within the provisions of the study design. Good luck to everybody today, and I'm sure you'll all do great. |
