Re: Notre Dame OR University of New South Wales

I say UNSW just for the fact people won't give the confused look O_o and ask "Where's that?"

Aside from the lack of recognition of its existence, NDU has good lecturers and tutorial tutors, and decent class sizes so people actually know you exist even when you say nothing. All I can say teaching is high quality.

+1
Anyway, more and more ppl know about ND. And really, does it matter?
Talking to people who do Teaching at ND and other unis (like UNSW) you get a lot more practical experience at ND.

Re: University of New South Wales OR Notre Dame

well politik it depends on your definition of a real university. if it does not reach to public unversity standards offering csp places, then notre dame is not a real uni.

but if real by the basis of awarding of degrees, then notre dame i think does do that. however, you must consider that it will not be as well recognised even as a degree from one of the less well-recognised universities.

and yes the obvious choice would be unsw if you want your degree recognised. the only reason to choose notre dame over unsw would be something that unsw doesnt offer that notre dame does.

so make your decision carefully

Re: University of New South Wales OR Notre Dame

some speaker came from notre dame to talk bout its uni, from memory, basically its a private uni so they got limited of space for students, they got another campus out in WA i think? and one in england. imo i'd choose UNSW, since notre dam doesnt really have a wide range courses available.
pay a visit to the notre dam and take a tour there

Re: University of New South Wales OR Notre Dame

UNSW probably has quite a good drama program, I think. (There are lots of NIDA people there, that is why I think this.) The School of Ed is definitely sub-par, though. But as I said previously, there is nothing to stop you doing your BA in drama at UNSW and then a Dip.Ed 9B Ed, M teach, or some such thing at Notre Dame. Just make sure that you have enough of the right subjects to make sure that your BA meets the pre-service teaching training requirements of the NSW Institute of Teachers.

Re: Need help with choosing uni for teaching!!!

The Theatre Studies course is really good at ND, I met one of the lectures for that course and she was really informative (and I don't even do theatre studies). Also if you want to know more about the education degree, take a look at the link (http://www.nd.edu.au/sydney/courses/unitCourses/edunits.shtml), those are all the units on offer in 2009.

Re: Need help with choosing uni for teaching!!!

Just like I was told that ACU wasn't a 'real' uni I have really enjoyed my time there, and I think I am very equipped for my career.

It's all about personal preference. Personally, I went for somewhere that wasn't going to be daunting (we only have about 2600 people at Strathfield) and focused on social justice and ethics. When I visited the campus I knew that it was where I wanted to spend the next 4 years of my life.

It's a good idea to read up on the courses, what they offer you and what you're interested in. I didn't get many electives but I didn't mind that because I knew everything I was learning would be important for my career
