They say 480/500 is a certain 100UAI, but how much lower than that will get you in - depends on each year...

Getting a 98-99 in somethin (like 4umaths) will make life much easier...

Some past aggregate ranges corresponding to a UAI of 100:

2001: 483.2 - 498.2
1999: 485.4 - 494.3

Marks of a student who attained 100 in 2001:

Units | Course | Exam | Assess | HSC | Band
2 Chemistry 96/100 94/100 95 6
2 English (Advanced) 92/100 90/100 91 6
2 Mathematics Extension 1 99/100 99/100 99 E4
2 Mathematics Extension 2 99/100 99/100 99 E4
2 Physics 92/100 94/100 93 6
2 Japanese Beginners 91/100 92/100 92 6

exam = (rounded) aligned exam mark
assess = (rounded) moderated assessment mark
HSC = average of the above two marks, rounded

No, because the UAI is a rank. However, the change from TERs to UAIs occurred in 1998, and UAIs are, in general, higher than the corresponding TER. This is because the UAI is a rank within the entire state age cohort (i.e. everyone who did the School Certificate two years ago, including those who didn't go on to complete Year 12) instead of just within the HSC cohort, which is what the TER was.

That's correct. LazSeeker is not exact - it only approximates scaled marks, and then in turn approximates a UAI from that approximation. The aggregate it returns is not the exact scaled aggregate of the student.

It cites aggregates of 468+ as giving a UAI of 100 as a result of adjustments that I made to the conversion equation to allow it to be more accurate for UAIs below 100. I didn't think it was really a problem, considering that, if the calculated UAI is already up in the high 99s, it's impossble to calculate it with a further degree of accuracy.

The UAIs of students at the very top (99+) and towards the lower end of the scale (55-) are more likely to be 'blurred' due to the 'uniqueness' of their position, and the lack of more specific statistics.

Oh well... I'll just have to work harder to counter the 'blurred'-ness.... I really should be studying now... :p
