there are like hardly no jobs for game designers in Australia, (unless you wana make cheapo medicore DS games). I know there is 2K Australia, but that would be shit hard to get into. the big companies are in Europe and USA.

Yeh I know what you mean. But there are so many degrees that are like this.

The point is, that it sounds interesting, and it's marketable. We have a huge game buying market, thus some people may be lead to beleive that jobs exist.

Uni's don't really care, as they're only business's who's soul purpose is to "put bums on seats"(and get tuition fees)... If you can't get a job at the end of it, then they don't give a shit.

Working for Nintendo or something would be cool.
yeah but you won't be making end of the line games like pokemon, you'll be making games like I Love Catz, I love Ponies, and shit like that.

The degree isn't totally useless if you don't end up in the games industry; you could also do some more general IT or artistic work. It seems there is demand for this sort of thing since there are quite a few universities offering Games Dev degrees now and various colleges (e.g. AIE, Qantm) which specialise in it.

There are some games that were made in Australia and became popular. But, ironically, I can't remember what they were lol!

lol transfformers was an alright game, the aussie developers mainly work on PS2 and gameboy colour versions lawl, i guess Australia hardly gets to develop on the latest technologies. How ever I do know WiFi was invented by some Australian in Australia, and look where WiFi is today .. EVERYWHERE

ahh yeah I've heard of that, looks like criminal minds - video game style. I don't think any developer has ever done something like that before :/ Me thinks. Rockstar games would be doing most of the work though, Team bondi would probably do some artworks and stuff.

still its good to see the aussie games industry do something in a potentially blockbuster title (like bioshock) it may increase awareness of the industry here.

Do a maths degree and have a C++ portfolio if you want a job making games.
