I'm conflicted between choosing the Bachelor of Accounting or a Bachelor of Business with a major in Accounting degree at Western Sydney University. Which has better job opportunities? Any help would be welcome. Thanks in advance.

First thing to do is to compare each degree in the handbook:

http://handbook.westernsydney.edu.au/hbook/course.aspx?course=2783.1 is the Bachelor of Accounting;
http://handbook.westernsydney.edu.au/hbook/specialisation.aspx?unitset=MT2020.1 is Business with an Accounting major.

There aren't many differences in the degrees. Same length, many subjects are identical (but in a different order). The main thing to note is in the Business degree, you have electives which suggest you undertake certain subjects. Those subjects are compulsory under the Accounting degree.

If you want to be an accountant in the long term, you'll want to have your degree on the CA Accredited Tertiary Courses list which is found here: http://www.charteredaccountants.com...Program/Entry-requirements/Accredited-courses.

Many employers only accept graduates who have degrees on this list, so IMO it's very important. The 2016 list isn't out yet, but look through UWS accredited courses in 2015 and see what subjects it requires. Are all those subjects (or the new versions if they have been renamed) on that list? Are you able to take anything not on that list as an elective otherwise?

The only subject I can see is that is on that list, but not in the Business with Accounting Major course, is Principals of Economics. You could very easily use one of your electives for this as you have plenty available.

Personally, if you are sure you want to study accounting and be an accountant, pick the Bachelor of Accounting course. You still have electives, but everything you need to cover is compulsory. Under your business degree, you'd need to take some subjects as electives and you'll probably have to get your degree assessed differently for CA which is a pain. Plus you risk missing or forgetting what you need to take.

If you can, wait for the CA list for 2016 to be released to confirm everything you need. Otherwise, I'd start out in the Bachelor of Accounting. Worst case scenario if you don't like it, switch to Business after a semester and those subjects will count as electives.

I hope that helps!
