SO i waited abit and got a shit timetable. I was wondering how necessary is it to attend every single lecture, does it help being in a big room watching it live as opposed to watching a recording later? Cos thers a 2hr gap between my classes on friday , if I decide to go home early is it a big loss on my studies?

It would be unwise to regularly miss your lectures. Not only does it create an attitude of laziness, but it will just make your studies that much harder.

I can tell you right now that since you'll be going home early you won't be watching the lecture that day. Since the weeked will be after that you'll either have plenty of time to watch it which will be no problem, or you'll be lazy and won't.

Most people do this and fail

Try it for the first 2 weeks, if u are not up to date with all ur lectures then it's time to attend them in person

Or you might consistently watch the lecture - but take 2 or 3 hours to get through a 1 hour lecture because you procrastinate. Which is ok I reckon if it is just 1 lecture but if you have a lot of lectures it adds up - depends on what course you're studying

Attendance is optional in the same way passing is.

Why not think laterally about what you could do in those two hours

Do an assignment
Go to the gym
Socialise
Have lunch
Catch up on Facebook using free wifi

Plus some lecturers either deliberately or accidentally or more simply can't record everything that you will receive that is important for passing the course.

It depends really on the course. Some courses you really need to go and others are a complete waste of time. I barely attended any lectures throughout my entire degree because they weren't really necessary. I did however go to my Accounting lectures because that was the only unit I had where understanding the lectures was critical.
