MIT reminds me of the movie 21... the fact-based story about six MIT students who were trained to become experts in card counting and subsequently took Vegas casinos for millions in winnings!!

haha yeah i read that book the movie is based on. apparently there are still card counting teams at MIT and also Caltech. but there very hush hush (ie you cant just go around asking about them, as most members are alumni and most students wouldnt even know if one existed)

Looks like I'm sticking here in Australia for now and maybe I'll do post grad study there as you said, hopefully I can build up some money through some sort of part time or casual work.
They actually pay you to do graduate studies, not that much though, and I don't think it applies for international students, so you would probably need to get a scolarship, not to cover tuition fees, but to cover living expenses, unless you already have enough money to live off for 5 years.

Getting into MIT for undergraduate studies is probably really hard, you are more likely to get in at graduate school. Aim to be the 1st or 2nd highest rank in your undergraduate studies in physics at a Group of 8 uni and you might be able to make the scolarship. Oh, also you definently need to do honours.

Have a look at piled higher and deeper comics to see what life might be like as a doctoral student in USA, and also for a bit of a laugh
I've heard the comics are surprisingly accurate at times.

Good luck

Re: Massachusetts Institute of Technology

MIT is need blind, like a few other us unis, so they'll give you jobs/loans/grants to cover fees....plus some unis have a policy where if your parents combined income is under $60k you pay no fees, regardless of citizenship

but MIT is ridiculous to get into + need 3 SAT II's

I'd like to go to either, maybe as third year uni, but i'm still gonna attempt the SAT. Is there a thread about the SAT? like how it works and how subject tests work?

Re: Massachusetts Institute of Technology

CIT offers little international fin aid...

There are two general SAT tests: SAT I and SAT II's...SAT I is 3 sections: maths, critical reading and literacy stuff, and an essay. SAT II's are subject tests e.g. Physics, Chemistry, Maths, History. Generally, you have to take SAT I and 2 SAT II's, although some unis need 3, some need 1 and some don't care. Go to collegeboard.com - you need to register asap, otherwise you'll have to pay late fees. and the application forms are huge.
