im sure after the site is up after tonight... there will be plenty of essay's and essay questions there for you.

i got my emma/clueless essay that i did last year. i didnt do it based on a question but.

I just based the whole thing on the basic transformation and HOW aspects for each text... and when it comes to assessment tasks.. just change the intro or conclusion or format to fix the text type.. but basically.... each text type should have the same content.

Assessment Task 3

This was my latest assessment task for KL:
--------------------------------------------------------

TASK - "There are many ways of interpreting and valuing a text"

In the light of this statement write the transcript of a discussion between two people with different views of your text. (King Lear of Jane Eyre). This discussion should reflect a detailed understanding of these text, an insightful understanding of two readings, evidence and quotations from text to support these interpretations.

TIME ALLOWED: 50 MINUTES

--------------------------------------------------------

Sure this aint an essay, but it still is a valid extended response so if you want have a go, cause I did and went really badly. I got 10 outta 20 and I was soooo annoyed, until I found out the average was 6 :D

in the hsc, one question is dedicated as a creative response. THerfore, your going to have to write a non-essay formated response. When it comes to tackling a hsc creative response, if the question is out of 15 (which i belive it is), approx. only 3 marks are assigned to whether you use the format (interview, speech.. etc). So, when preparing for creative responses, just make sure u know the basic components of each style of writing. Generally, you alter your intro and conclusion to suit the format, add a little emotive bias depending on the required format.. and viola!

And, even when it comes to comprehensive material, always do something interesting, something that no else in the state will do. If you are supplied a graphic in which u must write a speech on, take on the role of an object or something like that. Markers will enjoy your orginality. E.g. If theres a photo of a car, pretend your a set of keys left inside the car.

Anyway... you get my idea

not really. Interview u can easily prepare for. get your ideas and points together, and use two conflicting personas in the interview. If u get to choose who u use, use a currect author or critic and put him/her against a traditional author or cirtic.

In interviews u need a great intro, great conclusion, and emotive behavior. Make one person in the interview have ur ideas and concepts, and just make the other person refute them. Interviews are great formats, cause u can use all your knowledge. You can critize and applaud a piece of work.

Yeah, our year 12 last year had to write a web page and thats why she always goes on about it, but she never explains it!
Your probarbly right. simple to understand etc...maybe a bit like a report with more headings and just chuck some links or something in...i dunno whats wrong with a good old essay to tell you the truth and i havent had one for an english task since i started year 11!

LOL

LOL - Respond in the form of a web page!

I wish we get that for our trials - that'd be fun! Except I know that the English teachers wouldn't have a clue about web design and mark it badly.

We spent so much time over the years learning how to write essays and now in the HSC english doesn't even examine essays, what is the world coming to?

That's the thing - you have to be prepared to display what you have learnt in all different types of formats. Unfortunately, most people learn in essay format. I was lucky to get 2 essays and 1 speech in the HSC, but I guess if you know the course well enough - you should be able to use any format.

All other forms are still fundementally an essay you just make minor adjustments especially in the intro and conclusion and throw in some appropriate stuff like 'statistics' somewhere in the middle

'All other forms are still fundementally an essay you just make minor adjustments'

Dont make this mistake! I have tried doing this for a conversation and it DOES NOT WORK. I just changed the format ( like i had Person A say the first paragraph, Person B the second) and i lost quite a few marks, there are RULES...and we know how much our friends at the BOS like rules!
You just need to know exactly what the features of a report/conversaion/speech etc are. If anyone can find such guide lines for a web page I would be eternally greatful and able to breath better when I think about the English Exam

My teacher rang up the BOS and asked whether they would ask us to write a script. They wouldnt put it in writing but they said the likelihood of a script eventuating would be low.
