7 Apr 2009, 10:58 AM ![]() ![]() | my teacher, once she gave us a crime fiction essay to write; back from holidays walks into room- you have 40 minutes write an essay.. we did it cold I remember I left half-page chunks planning to come back to them. My teacher knew what they were for, except she said that the 'tragic thing' was that my essay perfectly flowed. So point i'm making? make sure your essay flows. its been mentioned but yeah

5 Sep 2006, 10:06 PM ![]() ![]() | you really need to find something that is common (or un-common-sometimes this can help create an even more sophisticated essay) and elaborate on this with the ideas pointed out in the above posts. Also, you need to decide whether you want to integrate by techniques or by issues/values. Depending on the elective, one of these will be better. For example, in Module B, values is better to integrate by. ALSO IF YOU ARENT INTEGRATING YET MAKE SURE YOU DO BY THE TIME MONDAY THE 18th OF OCTOBER COMES AROUND, OTHERWISE IT WILL BE HARD TO GET A BAND 6!!!!! Apart from that, try to base all the directive terms in your essay on the words used in the essay. It is simple, but it makes a far more effective essay that parallels the module/elective. After all, that is what the examiners marking guide is developed from. Finally, i cannot emphasise enough the importance of BUZZ WORDS! i know it sounds dumb but big long words...such as juxtaposition and extrapolation....can boost the sophistication of your essay just that little bit and make all the difference between band 5 and band 6. When practicing, look up key words in your essay in a thesaurus and replace them with something that sounds really cool. I know it sounds dumb, but it really does work. Just make sure you get the RIGHT WORD otherwise you sound like an idiot. Cheers and GOOD LUCK!!!! |

"just as (issue) is illustrated in (text a), so too is (issue) also evident in (text b), but (text b) broadens the understanding of this issue/ conflicts with the understanding of this issue etc etc etc. to put it simply |

27 Oct 2004, 11:07 AM ![]() | firstly u wanna read the rubric thats in bold at the top of the page of each question, and u wanna incorporate what theyre askin fo in ur answer. Secondly for every point that u make u wanna do this: Guess what? Here's how... so what? Basically, the guess what is ur making a point about a text. The here's how is how the composer/author achieves this;i.e.techniques, characters. The so what, is tie it back to the question and show what its significance is. Also do heaps of practice essays cos that way u member the info which ur writin...the www.hsc.csu.edu.au website has past HSC papers as well as marking guidelines (which shows u what u have to include in ur essay to get a Band 6) and markers' comments which point to things that should/shouldn't be done in the essays. its all good, jus make sho u practice heaps |

Yeh thats what they mean when they say integrating. it has to be relevant integration otherwise there is no point... actually if it's not relevant it's worse to integrate, because it looks like that you lack technical control, do it right or don't do it. | |
