TUTORING TO MAKE ENGLISH ACCESSIBLE AND ENJOYABLE

My results
I received a study score of 50 in English and ENTER of 99.9 in 2008.
I didn't drop a mark in any English SAC.

My tutoring method
I am flexible and will adapt to your individual needs. Sometimes, students need to revisit the basics of essay-writing, or even spelling and grammar. Sometimes, all they need is a chat about their texts to get excited about the complexities of the themes and characters.

I will correct any essays you give me thoroughly and constructively. I can alert you to common mistakes that you make, conceptual gaps and help you develop an understanding of your strengths and weaknesses - this is how you make progress; this is how you learn .

I can simplify things. English is actually a very straightforward subject, despite the confusing way in which it is often presented, and I can give you pointers on simple things that can make a big difference to your understanding and expression. I will teach students how to avoid the pitfalls in the context essay; elucidate meaning from difficult (or boring!) texts and quickly and easily analyse articles. It doesn't have to be hard and I can show you techniques that make it EASY.

I will teach you how to be efficient in your study. Getting excellent results doesn't necessarily mean chaining yourself to the desk for a year (I was still able to go out every weekend, have a part-time job and uphold leadership positions at school). I can show you how to make a little bit of work go a long way, and avoid getting bored or burnt out...and hopefully some of my passion for the subject will rub off and help you to enjoy English.
I have excellent resources , some of which I have written myself, and I am confident that most students will find my notes invaluable.

(Note: for students not studying these, I am happy to teach essay technique and article analysis, but I am reluctant to teach Year 12 students texts which I have not studied in depth myself - I don't want to do you a disservice!)

Who, when, where and how much?
I will be tutoring students in any year level on a casual basis (I have no more room for regular students at the moment), starting THIS SUMMER for those wanting a head start on the year. Group sessions can be arranged and I will negotiate a lower price.
I can meet you at a library (Malvern library/state library). I can also come to your house. Prices will vary according to location to factor in time and money spent on transport. (Starting at $30 an hour)
